Does anyone have any insight into the PhD application process? I’m waiting to hear if I have been successful. Everyone I know has had an offer. My application has not moved from received on the portal. Am I in for a disappointment?

At this point it's ok to phone up and ask. Sometimes things get stuck in the system. What stage is it at? Have you had a response from the faculty or has the faculty said yes but you are waiting on the college? At Cambridge you have to be approved by the faculty first. Call the general admissions line, not the college.

I think I replied already to your thread in academic common room - take another look.

Pepsthedog · 10/02/2022 10:52

Thank you all for your time and thoughts. I have tried calling/emailing my supervisor but no response so far. I think it’s probably time to come up with a plan b 😞

@parietal, where would I find this section please?
parietal · 10/02/2022 12:58

@thing47 - academic common room is hidden away under Topics - Work - then expand the work option to find us.

if you are an academic at a university, it is a good place to stop by for a chat.

I'm not Smile, but DD is currently applying for PhDs so thought it might be of interest to her.

Thanks ever so much Flowers

So just heard, I’m not in the supervisor’s top pile so won’t know til April, after all the finding deadlines have long passed. So even if it’s an eventual yes, it’s an effective no. Gutted 😢

What do you mean by not in their top pile? When I applied to Cambridge for a PhD I got my supervisor to agree to take me on before I even applied. Did you not do that? Really hope it isn't a no for you. What subject are you applying for?

Malbecfan · 11/02/2022 08:42

Did you read my comment on your other thread?

Pepsthedog · 11/02/2022 09:12

Drdetriment. I thought I had my supervisor’s backing too, but it seems my proposal was not as strong as others, which have gone to the top her pile in terms of priority to approve before funding deadlines pass.

Malbecfan, I did if you mean the one about your DD. Thank you. I’m not sure if it makes a difference but mine was a humanities not a science application, and all the funding deadlines are the end of this month. I could still get a place but it would have to be self-funded, which is impossible for me
