Son has got a score of 5.9 in the 2021 TMUA and has applied and got an offer to study Maths at Bath . So, should he show them the score of only slightly above average which may make him look like a weaker student or don't show them the score which would make him look like someone who didn't bother doing the TMUA? His offer at the moment is : AAA or A*ABB. He would like to try for a reduced offer but not sure if 5.9 is a decent score ? Has he got anything to lose if he discloses this score ? Thank you so much !!

Former RG STEM Admission Tutor here. The offers your DS holds are binding. His offer from Baths will not be negatively affected by the disclosure of his TMUA score, if that is your concern. Whether they will give him a lower one I cannot say.

Baths Maths is highly competitive and excellent, but within the small set of Maths programmes using TMUA it isn’t one of the most elite. I would expect their reaction to a slightly above average score to be neutral to positive. If your DS were mine I would feel comfortable disclosing. There is nothing to lose.

PS It is being reported just now that the grade boundaries this year will be lowered to accommodate the difficulties pupils had on account of Covid.

Poetryandwine thank you so much, that was what I was hoping to hear Smile. I was worried in case they can decide not good enough and put grades up. We'll disclose the result as it is definitely above average and nothing to loose. Thanks again .

Glad to help, OP.

For others who may be reading, perhaps I should mention that offers are rescinded in case of fraud, including plagiarised personal statements. They may also be rescinded if the application is shown to be substantially misleading, regardless of the reason for this
