Just wondered how people have got on? My DDs school done very badly this year - just wondered how other people have fared!

There's a whole discussion about this today. Confusingly, on the thread entitled 'Oxford aspirants'!

Will everyone had heard by now? Wishing them the best for whatever that email says!

Ds’s school in the north also faired very badly this year with Oxbridge offers.

doubleshotcappuccino · 26/01/2022 01:38

Yes it was a no for us but also across the board seems very much rejections .....

LondonMischief · 26/01/2022 06:13

I wonder if they are not over offering this year as it is known in advance that A levels results will be inflated again ( thought not as high as last year)?

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 06:32

Yes I think it's tight due to two unexpectedly large cohorts of students in the past 2 years. Ds's school has gone from about 7 offer usually to 2-4 offers this year.

Thx all - my DD got pooled - but not one out of the 8 applicants have been offered a place at Cambridge - seems even more of a lottery this year!

Two offers from DS's state school in the North East. I think it's a bonus year for them.

Interesting, as Oxford have apparently made slightly more offers than previously: from their website,
‘More than 3600 talented students will today receive offers of places for undergraduate study from October 2022, after a second year of online interviews as a result of the pandemic. This is an increase of 2.6% on the previous year‘

Maybe Cambridge had a very different approach.

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 22:59

Previously Cambridge used a different ratio of offers from Oxford. Then when Oxford said in 2020 that they would honour all offers, there was pressure on Cambridge to do the same. Cambridge ended up with a relatively huge cohort; all universities did but Cambridge was particularly affected. They've been adjusting ever since.

We have a relative with a Cambridge offer this year - huge relief and very much deserved (of course only going if the grades are met in due course of course.....) (fee paying day school in the North).
