@mmzz

Does anyone know if there have been any economics offers made yet?
I know one person who has received an economics offer a couple of weeks ago .
cocopops · 18/02/2022 07:41

TSR reporting an economics offer last night at 11 am!

cocopops · 18/02/2022 07:41

Sorry- 11pm!

mmzz · 18/02/2022 08:51

This is my second time waiting for a Durham offer. And there was anxiety over college application too.

Everything worked out fine that time and I promised myself to not think about where the offer is/ is it coming at all? until the end of March.
And not to worry about the college allocation at all since they are all good one way or another.

But here I am.. mid-February and I'm checking social media for mentions of offers coming out!

cocopops · 18/02/2022 10:28

First time here. I’m all over social media too - TSR is my most visited site apart from mumsnet higher education forums. Waiting on Durham for economics/history. I am a control freak so handling it less wellthan my daughter 😩

Longtimenewsee · 18/02/2022 10:45

On our way to Durham for weekend. Hoping the weather is kind ( we are from north .. so used to rain ). Dd says they’ve had a dusting of snow .

We were just waiting for the wind to die down to leave to visit dd when got a call from her to say she has tested positive. Sad
Fruitygal · 18/02/2022 15:36

Having done this whole application thing twice before with my DSs - I have found this time far more stressful. Economics seems super stressful ...DD has done economics for A level and has some natural aptitude and was heavily encouraged to do a degree by school but she wasn't fussed and now I am relived.

NotEnoughTime · 18/02/2022 16:06

Good luck Longtimenewsee

I'm so sorry to hear that MargaretThursday you must be gutted Sad

Longtimenewsee · 18/02/2022 17:29

Oh no @MargaretThursday! What a shame!! Gutted for you..and really hope she isn’t too poorly!
Here now.. it’s very gusty

MargaretThursday · 18/02/2022 17:33

Thanks.
She doesn't seem to be too ill. She said she had a bit of a sore throat earlier in the week, but tested negative (including on the university tests) daily so didn't think it was covid. She was going out to meet a friend so thought she better do one before going and it was a strong positive. She said a real surprise because she'd done one late on yesterday (uni test) and it was negative and was feeling fine today.

And we couldn't get our money back on the place we'd rented because we were too late.

SpamhappyTootsie · 18/02/2022 17:36

Sorry to hear that @MargaretThursday, hope she isn’t too ill with it.

@Longtimenewsee DS said that between the strikes and the weather it is very quiet there at the moment, but I don’t think they have been too badly hit by the storm. Some beautiful snowy photos on the FB Durham page and from friends around Weardale. Not nice for travelling but pretty when you get there.

mmzz · 22/02/2022 10:51

Still waiting....!

Luckily DS seems to have more patience then I do.

Longtimenewsee · 22/02/2022 11:18

Hi all

Good luck to those applying this year

Well, my belief that it’s always sunny in Durham was truly tested last weekend Grin. Despite the vile weather we had a lovely time. Yes @SpamhappyTootsie it did seem quieter with less students around . Perhaps some taking advantage of strikes and had gone home for long weekend and working from there.

Fruitygal · 22/02/2022 19:53

@Longtimenewsee - Thanks for your best wishes - what does your DC study and where are the best places to have dinner in Durham - DD has an offer so we are travelling up the right before for the offer day

Reusername · 27/02/2022 12:16

Hi, has anyone heard from History yet?

mmzz · 27/02/2022 15:09

@Reusername I saw a similar question asked on TSR and the answer seemed to be "not yet".

Someone did point out that the strikes may have delayed the processing of applications which would make sense. You'd like to think that those who were striking, priorised teaching when they resumed work.

Frustrating for those of us waiting though

Reusername · 27/02/2022 21:32

Thanks mmzz. IS your DC a History applicant?

SpamhappyTootsie · 01/03/2022 17:49

It gets harder to leave Durham every time I visit! Not because of leaving DS, but because it’s such a lovely city and the surrounding countryside is quietly beautiful. Seriously pondering a move to Co Durham, but not until DS finishes there, as it would look a bit…..clingy to move now Grin But honestly, I wouldn’t bother him, he’d hardly know I was there Wink

Longtimenewsee · 01/03/2022 19:25

Lol @SpamhappyTootsie. I totally agree. It’s beautiful.
I love the big skies Smile

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 01/03/2022 19:34

Come join us @spamhappyTootsie. County Durham is delightful. Just don't tell too many people.

mmzz · 02/03/2022 10:13

No, he's applying for Accounting and Finance.

chopc · 02/03/2022 10:15

I must be a one off not too have been enthralled by Durham 🤔
Maybe it's because I live in Kent which is also beautiful

mmzz · 02/03/2022 10:59

Has everyone seen this?
www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6933588&page=127

Hi everyone!

I understand what you all are going through, I have been in this position myself like many others. Because of the deferrals, so many spaces are already filled. So it is taking longer to go through applications and deciding who to offer a position, so that it is fair to everybody. Plus, I don't think it will help if offer holder days are scheduled for May because that is the examination period and you will hardly find any students you can talk to about their experience because they will be busy with preparation.

I believe it's not just Durham but a lot of other universities that are trying to sift through applications as quickly as they can. Obviously, it would be better if everyone had heard back by now so they had longer to decide their choice but honestly it isn't in my hand to change the process. I have been actively reading the conversation here and have passed this on because that's all I have the power to do. Rest assured, you will hear soon and apologies for the delay.

Longtimenewsee · 05/03/2022 11:08

Hi all.. if I’ve done my sums right , there is only 2 more weeks of Epiphany term. It’s gone v fast!. How are all the Dc? ( including Dc in years 2/3/4) . Dd said (at Xmas) that she has 5 weeks break for Easter (which seems a lot!) but I guess they have exams when they go back so perhaps they will be revising/ handing in work Hmm Grin
I presume there are a few weeks of all out fun in the sunshine once exams are done but term has not finished?
