@KingscoteStaff Thank you for new thread.

SpamhappyTootsie · 03/01/2022 18:41

Thank you for the new thread.
Looks like it’s turning cold over in Durham this week. DS might need to take that Big Coat after all Grin

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 03/01/2022 19:14

Definitely chillier today than it was over new year!

Baytreemum · 03/01/2022 19:39

Thx @KingscoteStaff. Big coat needed at Durham pretty much all year round according to my DD!!!

MargaretThursday · 03/01/2022 19:53

Thank you!
Going back on Wednesday.

NCTDN · 03/01/2022 19:54

Thanks!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 03/01/2022 20:11

Happy new year all!

I left many of you on a cliff hanger at the end of last term when I threatened to embarrass DS by heading to Klute with an (equally) old mate. Sadly our trip to Klute never materialised as I ended up in Durham A&E instead (long story.... but I'm fighting fit again now!).

DS is heading back to Durham at the weekend and very much looking forward to it!

321zyx · 03/01/2022 20:15

Thank you for the new thread Grin

Bluebellwoods1 · 03/01/2022 20:21

@MidLifeCrisis007 pleased you are ok .

Peaseblossum22 · 03/01/2022 21:44

Gosh sounds worrying @MidLifeCrisis007 glad you are ok. Thanks for the new thread @KingscoteStaff

Fruitygal · 03/01/2022 22:41

Thanks for the new thread x

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 04/01/2022 10:47

Thank you @KingscoteStaff for the new thread.

Gosh @MidLifeCrisis007 that took a turn didn't it? Glad you are okay now.

Ds is going back on Saturday and is taking a winter coat (although we are hard Northerners so used to the cold Grin) and walking boots in case of snow and a teeny slow cooker that he got for Christmas. It is cooking his lunch which is practise for a dinner when he is at uni. He is used to using a slow cooker but a massive family one for a family meal with left overs so this thing is tiny in comparison and we are trying to work out what it will take.

chopc · 04/01/2022 12:51

Oh dear @MidLifeCrisis007 - pleased you are better now

KingscoteStaff · 04/01/2022 15:44

DS (and Big Coat) on train tonight.

Longtimenewsee · 04/01/2022 15:49

@MidLifeCrisis007 I Hope you are ok now.
Dd already had her big coat in Durham as (despite being a northerner), she is ‘nesh’ 😁

tinkywinkyshandbag · 04/01/2022 19:17

Taking DD back on Sunday she's not looking forward to it, lots of work this term, also she's not keen on many of her house members (decided on in a rush during lockdown last year so no wonder really) and she will miss her boyfriend who she's seen lots of over the past few weeks. In fact we've hardly seen her! Off to do an Aldi/Savers shop on Friday for some basics for her to take back.

KingscoteStaff · 05/01/2022 06:45

@tinkywinkyshandbag That’s a real pain that her house is proving tricky. I’m guessing that negotiating a swap with someone else would be more hassle than putting up with it, though?

libbytrois · 05/01/2022 18:26

Thanks @KingscoteStaff ! Heading back Sunday (when there's lots of railway engineering works going on 😱 😂)

321zyx · 05/01/2022 21:31

@libbytrois DS also heading back on Sunday (I didn't dare mention the railway engineering work whilst he was agonising over which train/day to book!)........no doubt they'll all end up on a 'bus replacement service' somewhere along the route Grin!

LeiatheSchnauzer · 06/01/2022 11:18

Hi everyone. Dd also going back on the train on Sunday but we are driving her to a station further up the main line to cut out a big chunk of cross country transfers. I hope that will avoid some of the delays.
Am a bit concerned about her housing for next year. Her group seems to be leaving it a bit late. She found some houses she liked online over the holiday but when she phoned they had all already been taken by those who had the wherewithal to email before Christmas. She was finding it really hard to look before then as has been so swamped with work and is now going back to exams so not sure when she will have the time to look. Trying not to be too stressy but it is hard not to interfere and leave them to it!

SpamhappyTootsie · 06/01/2022 17:31

DS going back tomorrow. DH taking him by car, but I have to work so I can’t go, which is a shame because I could do with a nice Durham Trip to cheer me up Grin No face to face for 2 weeks (not sure if that includes lectures masked up, but it includes scheduled next week).
I also want him to get a move on with next year’s accommodation! It’s making me twitchy. He has a group to rent with, all compatible Wish Lists so just a case of finding somewhere.

WentworthMillerMad · 06/01/2022 19:24

Happy new year, thanks for including me. my DS left yesterday after almost 4 weeks at home that went too quickly! I picked him up on 11th and did a lovely guided walking history tour which I loved, what a beautiful place. Always a wrench but he was excited to get back. Must plan a visit in a few weeks!

par05 · 06/01/2022 21:55

Hi all thanks for the new thread @KingscoteStaff dd going back tomorrow, driving down to Bristol and she's catching plane back then, she had a email today saying 1st 2 week is online lessons!

Longtimenewsee · 07/01/2022 13:40

@WentworthMillerMad how did you book the guided tour? Can you recommend who you used? I fancy that .. maybe when we go for a weekend nearer Easter

WentworthMillerMad · 07/01/2022 16:31

@longtimenewsee I went with Peter at

www.walkaboutdurham.com/

He is a local teacher and does it as a hobby. Was lovely to chat to someone so knowledgeable about the area and learn more about such a beautiful place. Highly recommend.
