Nope @Longtimenewsee . All seems to be quite on that front

Bluebellwoods1 · 10/02/2022 16:25

I asked DD last night re the strikes and she said the same @Longtimenewsee , she thinks it will be next week, it’s annoying as she is coming home for a family thing at the end of next week , would come sooner if she knows she doesn’t have lectures.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 13/02/2022 12:18

DS says lots of people have gone home for a few days... seemingly to recover from a bit of mid term burn out....

Honestly, the yuuuuff of today!!!! They've got no stamina!

Longtimenewsee · 13/02/2022 12:41

Lol @MidLifeCrisis007 . Dd and friends definitely much better behaved than my student days. Blush
I guess if they know they have no lectures/ reduced lectures due to strikes, they can do it online at home? And get some nice family time. Not an option for Dd- as even if a few lectures/ practicals were cancelled, she’d still have a pretty full timetable and early starts.
We are visiting her soon though so I’ll get my fix of her Smile I’ve just booked beamish tickets and I’m going to book a restaurant.

NotEnoughTime · 13/02/2022 13:54

I bet you can't wait Longtimenewsee

I'm heading up next Friday to see my DS and I'm so excited. I miss him so much. Our house isn't the same without him.

Longtimenewsee · 13/02/2022 18:14

Aww have a lovely time @NotEnoughTime. Yes .. can’t wait to see my girl.

NotEnoughTime · 13/02/2022 18:25

Thanks Longtimenewsee-you too.

We can compare notes after our visit Smile

MidLifeCrisis007 · 13/02/2022 19:02

I spoke to DS earlier and he said none of the lecturers have to say in advance whether they'll be striking.... so he'll have to turn up to see if the lectures are going ahead.

I've lost all sympathy with his lecturers over this.

chopc · 13/02/2022 21:38

That's awful @MidLifeCrisis007 😔

I guess to have impact they have to make students suffer in the Hope students will cause an uproar against the Uni? I hate it that educators feel this way

NotEnoughTime · 13/02/2022 22:08

I have every sympathy with the strikers but it is unfair that it is the students who suffer Sad

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 14/02/2022 07:23

That's kind of the point of strikes though isn't it, causing problems for others. If nobody was inconvenienced by strikes they wouldn't be a very good tool for workers!

chopc · 14/02/2022 07:39

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea whilst that's true the target is the university itself and not the students . Yet it's the students who will suffer

MidLifeCrisis007 · 14/02/2022 08:16

I assume the university doesn't pay the strikers for the days that they strike. The students still have to pay the university though for tuition they don't get.

When the strikers don't have the decency to tell their students to not waste their time turning up to lectures that won't be happening, I can have no sympathy for them. Wasting the time AND money of students is totally inexcusable.

NotEnoughTime · 14/02/2022 11:58

Thank you chopc that's exactly what I meant.

KingscoteStaff · 14/02/2022 18:16

Just put DS on the train back to The North. So lovely to see him for a long weekend.

Anyone know if the Durham maths department has issued offers yet? DC still waiting on Durham and UCL.

KingscoteStaff · 15/02/2022 07:45

TSR is often the best source of info on when the offers have been issued. I’m currently scouring their boards for DD’s choices!

Glad you had a lovely weekend with your Ds @KingscoteStaff. It’s so nice to have them home for a bit.
This term seems to be flying by- I can’t believe they are halfway through the year!

Genegenieee · 15/02/2022 11:07

DD has had an offer from Durham for Maths and Physics in the last week. I read physics offers are out too, so hopefully maths alone will be soon too 🤞🏻
NotEnoughTime · 15/02/2022 11:43

KingscoteStaff Is your DD hoping to go to Durham too? It would be handy for you if she was.

KingscoteStaff · 15/02/2022 11:45

@NotEnoughTime - She's applying for Medicine, so sadly Durham is not an option...

However, Newcastle is - so fingers firmly crossed for an offer from there!

KingscoteStaff

Near enough then!

Fingers crossed for your DD-I know Medicine is notoriously difficult.

Does anyone know if there have been any economics offers made yet?

libbytrois · 18/02/2022 05:39

@mmzz economics offers went out really late ast year, think around March. Certainly the last offer received.
