Son has been invited to interview (Zoom) for Middle Eastern Studies course at Manchester. Been researching online what sort of questions are usually asked but was hoping someone here might have first hand experience!

Also welcome would be advice on what to say on hobbies and interests - i'm assuming that 'watching football' is not going to cut it!

How competitive is this course? It’s not an Oxbridge interview so I would not stress too much.

I assume he’s looked at the topics studied on the course? Research a couple of the topics a bit to show an interest. What made him apply for this course? What does he want to get out of if? What are his goals? What interests him? What books could he read to give him an insight into the course? Has he read articles about Middle Eastern history and culture?

I’m not sure they are turning many people away but it pays to read around the subject to feel relaxed at the interview. So maybe show more interest in some aspect of the course and be positive about wanting a place. Even the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar could be a starting point?
