Hi just a quick query - my son's

school have a deadline of today for UCAS applications. I know they have to go through them all and add references and predicted grades but then what? Do they sit on them till January or will they be submitted when they are ready and if they are submitted early could he get any offers through before January? Just wondering what to expect...

They are submitted well before January in most good schools and people do get offers. It tends to me the school is efficient and good. Our children's schools asked for the draft personal statement before end of term in July of that year so teachers could give feedback before the summer holiday.

Yep, the school can submit as soon as the student and they are happy with the application. My DDs school aim to submit as many as possible before the early October deadline for Oxbridge/medicine applications, so hers went in just before half term. She has 3 offers already. Some unis do wait until after the January deadline to make offers. The have to make offers by mid-May, so there could still be a long wait for some

You need to ask his school! No one here will know one random schools procedures!

Most schools put in 'deadlines' for internal purposes to get the students chivvying along and to spread out the workload for staff. Once they are signed off internally they can be sent, and yes, offers start rolling in. My son had 4/5 of his offers before Christmas (and yes, it WAS Durham that dragged its heels!)
The real final deadline is in January.

Once the school has added the reference and predicted grades , the student can submit it.

He could get offers, yes. Some of us on the Oxbridge application thread have kids who have received offers. Not from Oxbridge obvs, but from others on the UCAS application.

@LIZS

Once the school has added the reference and predicted grades , the student can submit it.
It is the other way round - the student presses submit (or pay and submit or indeed I believe it has different wording this year) and that merely submits to the school. The school then adds the reference and PGs and it is the school that can actually submit it to UCAS .

We have had offers already

Stillgoings · 18/11/2021 13:38

That's great to hear it has been so quick. My son's deadline was the 8th but there was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing with teachers and their references and it was finally submitted yesterday. I hope he hears soon. It is very exciting for them!

Glad he's submitted it. DS' girlfriend has had interviews already.

Dds went yesterday and she's had an offer today.
