Help me to help DD choose a degree. Most likely Philosophy!

DD is looking at Philosophy as a degree, which is great, but DH and I are feeling a bit out of our depth. DD knows about rankings, tables etc, but all the specs for Philosophy degrees seem so similar. I thought I'd post here hoping someone might have more knowledge - where's the best teaching? I don't necessarily mean the most prestigious, more dynamic and global, rather than just Western philosophy.

Then might there be degrees which DD just hasn't thought of? She's chosen Philosophy because it's her favourite A-level, but could there be other degrees which she'd fit and just hasn't thought of. Maybe Anthropology? Trouble is DH and I know nothing about that either! Confused Her A-levels are Philosophy, History and Sociology (AAA predictions).

Any thoughts would be great. Neither DH or I went to University, so we're feeling a bit on the back foot and sadly her school seem as clueless as us!

@SkinnyMirror
I cannot say I know much about philosophy degrees but I can research stats and report them accurately.

Apologies for ducking out of my own thread! Bit of a family emergency, but all sorted now. Really I just want to say a huge thanks for all the comments. It's ever so interesting to read through and pretty much mirrors how DD has found responses in real life. Lots of comments at school about Philosophy not leading directly to a career path and suggesting law and such like instead. None of which have put her off, so Philosophy it is. We're very happy to back that decision and DH and I have been much cheered by hearing so many of you say it's a good choice, rather than a rubbish one! DD's currently digging into courses to check out content and lecturer specialities, etc. Smile

PlanDeRaccordement I just wanted to say thanks for posting so clearly on St Andrews - DD's going to give it another look. Smile

You certainly do not need to do a Law degree to practice law. Schools can be very narrow minded and poorly informed which is sadly passed off as advice. Hope DD finds a suitable course.
