Reapplying to Uni

Hi - my dd has decided to reapply to Uni next year despite having place this year but not sure what to do re PS. She will actually be reapplying to somewhere previously had an offer which she rejected....Do you say why taking Gap year? Do you need to mention previously applied? Will they know? I assume scool needs to write reference? Advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My DD deferred her place in 2019 then decided to withdraw and reapply to 4 different universities plus the one she had deferred her place at. Her school had to submit an academic reference (and charged her for it even though it was identical to her previous year's reference!) She wrote about what she was doing in her gap year (but only 2 sentences at the end). She never mentioned that she previously applied... it was pretty obvious as it was a niche course. She got 5 unconditional offers and accepted a place for a totally different course to her Y13 choices at a university she had not applied to in 6th Form.

No need to mention reapplying. No need to mention gap year unless what ever she is going adds to her application. They won't know she previously applied.

Most schools will assist a y14 applicant and will use the same reference (again updated if need be). The advantage will be she has her grades in hand rather than pending so can target unis where her grades match or exceed standard offers and when they come in they will be unconditional so she only needs to choose a firm and no insurance.

Her ps should mention any plans she has for her gap year which are relevant to course, options or potential career. Iirc UCAS refers to her previous application number although not sure this is flagged to unis. Dd is currently at the uni she rejected and reapplied to.
