Student finance

I'm having problems with student finance. We are a retired couple with an income below 30k and last yr our son got a full maintenance loan of around 9k.

This year not only have they said he's getting the minimum, but that he should have had the minimum last year so he has to repay the rest therefore making his payment for 21/22 £0.

I have sent, and had acknowledged, all financial information they have asked for. We only have pensions, we don't have any other savings, investments, income or whatever. They have had all our P60s and I even took a screenshot of our HMRC pages. When I called them a couple of weeks ago she said 'oh it's probably being processed' but we have had another letter today stating he is not getting anything. With only a few weeks to go I'm getting very stressed about it now. We can't afford to pay his rent/living costs and his earnings from part time job won't cover it.

I'm just gearing myself up for another long and fraught conversation with them. Has anyone else had any problems? Hopefully ones that were resolved?

That's terrible. I have no advice apart from keep querying it because that doesn't sound right at all!
