Any advice for y12 daughter from those with recent experience? Particularly thinking pre application reading, application and interview. She’s predicted 3 A*s (law politics and philosophy), state sixth form college.

Oxford is one of many universities that she’s considering. We’re pretty au fait with the general higher education situation, just wondered about tips specific to this subject at Oxford; hence asking a pretty specific question.

@goodbyestranger

My dc did Art A level (at state comp/6th form) and is a current History student at Oxford!

But I'm guessing she didn't do Art, Sociology and General Studies, Crummles? No one is suggesting that simply taking any one particular subject would preclude a person from a successful Oxbridge application.

(And I daresay even the combination I've mentioned might be acceptable in the right circumstances. It's really not a matter of absolutes ...)

If she would like to get a flavour of philosophy at Oxford, this is part of the pre course reading for one of the first year phil modules. The author caveats it by saying most offer holders will struggle to get beyond ch 3.

Thanks @Hoghgyni

Or see if anything captures her imagination here.

I glanced at DD4's philosophy sheets a couple of night ago and had to run for the Wine. Lots of weird symbols and stuff.

My DC is studying law at Oxford with advanced highers, in perhaps (one may consider) three soft subjects:

modern studies ( the study of contemporary political and social issues), religious, moral and philosophical studies; and music.

A grade 'A' in these subjects is worth 56 UCAS points so they must regard the subjects as acceptable. His offer was AAB.
