Apologies if I've done this wrong! I seemed to have filled up the last thread, hopefully the abbreviated title is ok!

Bend - yes, agreed. DS has theory test booked for the 20th 🤞

Bigwoolly hope you can get the Airbnb sorted - does sound like it's been complicated by the change of ownership, what are the chances eh?!

Good advice chopc DS starts lessons again in July (unless our local instructor has a slot open up beforehand- unlikely as most instructors here are not taking on new pupils) so will ask his instructor then.

ChimneyPot · 09/06/2021 10:37

Big day here. Leaving cert (A level equivalent ) started. DD wasn’t very stressed though.

Thankfully my FIL taught her to drive on private land when she was about 14 so by the time she was 17 and on the road she was a decent driver.

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/06/2021 12:18

@bendmeoverbackwards

Annoying you can’t book the practical test until you’ve passed the theory.
@bendmeoverbackwards Totally. It is hard to even plan the campaign - if one could know if it would be feasible to get a test in mid Sept or whether it had to be Dec, one would set up a completely different scheme of lessons etc.
chopc · 09/06/2021 13:36

All the best to junior @ChimneyPot

@Revengeofthepangolins and @bendmeoverbackwards - I didn't realise the cancellation apps can be used for both theory and driving tests but they can. My friend's twins say their theory on the 1st and she was saying a slot was available on the Saturday but son didn't want to take it.

chopc · 09/06/2021 13:38

I will be gutted if the Leavers Ball and a significant end of year last day celebrations are cancelled as a result of the 21st June restrictions not opening.

I think the ball can go ahead but prob can't take dates from other schools

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/06/2021 15:41

Same concern for us @chopc- the big summer picnic and Leavers' day at DS1's shops are looking imperilled. So very very boring

Notagardener · 09/06/2021 16:52

no 6th form ball here :(

MidLifeCrisis007 · 09/06/2021 18:23

This made me chuckle!

So funny @MidLifeCrisis007 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🙈

chopc · 09/06/2021 18:34

I need to know how to use Twitter properly. A lot of vaccination news eg suddenly if they start offering jabs to particular age groups are tweeted first

MidLifeCrisis007 · 09/06/2021 19:33

In some non DC related news, a fellow poster on this thread and I are going to go sculling on the River Thames together tomorrow. We could be the wobbliest boat on the river.

Still, at least the water is warm(ish) if worse comes to worse! And the Boat House is in close proximity to a pub....

chopc · 09/06/2021 20:46

How exciting midlife! Have fun!

Pumpkintopf · 09/06/2021 22:51

Good luck to your DD @ChimneyPot

Midlife - that sounds very exciting! Let us know how you get on!

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 10/06/2021 07:06

@MidLifeCrisis007 how exciting! I hope it is a lot of fun. It is always something I have wanted to try.

We went to our friend's wedding in Richmond years ago and as part of that we had to leave the beautiful wedding venue, get into a boat and row the freaking Thames to get to the gorgeous reception venue. Luckily I was just a passenger in the boat whilst Dh and another usher rowed and I held onto the usher's 4 year old daughter in her little life jacket. All the river cruisers were looking on as a convoy of rowing boats being rowed by people very dressed up meandered their way down the river. It was a very lovely day.

@bendmeoverbackwards so sorry to hear about your DD. Truly a shit time. My sister and husband have tested positive for covid and are both fully vaccinated but their children are negative. They are all isolating but the house is also divided with the positives and the negatives. The children are barely adults and live at home.

We went up to Durham on a gorgeous 20 degree sunny day for Ds1's uni tour. Whilst he was on that we walked round Durham centre. It was bustling with people and there were little groups of students queuing for cafes. It was lovely to see it alive as last time we went it was very quiet. Ds loved it even more, the tour was just what he needed, chatted to other applicants and thoroughly enjoyed himself. We ate fish and chips up by the cathedral.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 10/06/2021 20:30

@Pumpkintopf

Good luck to your DD *@ChimneyPot*

“Believe me my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

Today Revenge and Midlife became Ratty and Mole. It was fabulous.... (and importantly we kept our skinny double upright!).

Thanks Revenge. I loved every minute of our outing.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/06/2021 20:42

How lovely, a MN meet up! Glad you had fun? Were you Ratty or Mole? 😂

@OnTheBenchOfDoom sorry to hear about your sister. That’s worrying that they were vaccinated and still got it! How old are the children? Hope they’re managing ok.

Dd has been confined to her room and she has her own bathroom (loft room) so that helps. With the lovely weather she’s been coming out to the garden every day to have a socially distant chat with us. It’s a pain taking meals up to her though.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/06/2021 20:44

@OnTheBenchOfDoom the Durham trip sounds great! Lovely for him to have something to look forward to. I’ve never visited but it sounds like a very pretty city.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 10/06/2021 21:02

@bendmeoverbackwards my sister's children are 22 (vaccinated) and 18 (not vaccinated). They live in a gorgeous Edwardian house with one bathroom but a cloakroom downstairs. The madness is that the update this afternoon is that the children have it too. It makes life easier in the house but everyone just feels completely rubbish, achy all over. I am too far away to help re food delivery etc but she has a massive family on her husband's side so they can help and will, they are very close.

At least your DD has her own bathroom to herself and can stay isolated up there but good that she can get out into the garden. My children have never eaten in their rooms, ever. It would feel like a novelty! Grin

Ds is a lover of nature, happy to sit and stare at a view for hours or walk for hours in the countryside. Durham is very green, lots of trees and the river is lovely. We even went for a walk round a woodland trust place near to his college. He is not a city boy even though we live on the edge of a large city.

@MidLifeCrisis007 love the Ratty and Mole pic, glad you had fun with Revenge

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/06/2021 21:12

Oh so sorry to hear that @OnTheBenchOfDoom, so rubbish for all of them. Did they do lateral flow or PCR tests out of interest?

For some reason they’ve added a day onto mine and Dh’s isolation period! It now says Sunday night but both dds 1 and 2 are Saturday night. I’ve emailed T&T as it can’t be right.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 10/06/2021 21:46

@bendmeoverbackwards BIL felt unwell so did LFT which came up positive so the rest of the family did LFT, all negative. BIL booked PCR which came back positive. Less than 24 hours later my sister was feeling rough, did LFT and positive so did PCR. Then is was like dominoes!

BIL is key worker so has been exposed to the public a lot, everyone else is working from home except 18 year old as just finished sixth form. Their isolation period has been extended due to children testing positive later than parents. Luckily like us they are a close family and get on really well.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/06/2021 22:41

I hope it passes quickly for them @OnTheBenchOfDoom

Revengeofthepangolins · 12/06/2021 07:56

Very happy to report that thanks to midlife’s patience and expertise, we stayed dry on the river!
Revengeofthepangolins · 12/06/2021 08:36

I was definitely Mole! Terrific fun

chopc · 12/06/2021 19:57

Thinking back at the driving tests - I think the DC on this thread are still waiting for their driving tests as they have been so focused on their assessments / exams and interviews for Oxbridge. Others who are younger than my DC have been driving for several months as they could do the three day short notice etc. I wonder if sometimes we were too focused on the academics .........

DS finally arranged a great day and night away with some buddies to watch the cricket at Egbaston only for their journey there not to be worth their while due to England's poor performance 😔

Notagardener · 12/06/2021 20:13

nah chopc, dc2 started /restarted/re-restarted as soon as she could. (But oversleeping did cause her to miss a double lesson, not academics)
