Anyone's DC had gap year cancelled?

First, if your DC has had their gap year cancelled, I'm really sorry and sympathize.

However, just wondering which unis are cancelling/which countries.

DD is meant to be going to Germany. She been warned it's likely many unis will cancel, not hers but unis abroad. A friend going to Amsterdam has just had hers cancelled by uni out there.

A friend's daughter was due to go to Canada for the year - she flew out last week and will do the summer term at the university after quarantine. Work has been set for her online so she's been studying at home since September. It's not the full year experience abroad but at least she has gone.

Do you actually mean gap year? Or the year abroad which is part of the course the student is taking?

Germany is massively ramping up its Covid vaccine programme now that more vaccines have become available. So, despite the high numbers at the moment, I would be cautiously optimistic about the liklihood of in person teaching resuming as normal in the Autumn.

Is your DC studying German? Do they have the option of going to another country eg Switzerland? Some of DS’ MFL friends who were due to go to Latin America this year managed to get places at Spanish universities where life has been relatively normal. Italy has also been fairly normal.

DD going to a Spainish university rather than Argentina in September.
She's quite disappointed but just grateful she now has a place.
Just filled out all the host university paperwork so hopeful she'll be going.
It will really hinder her degree if she couldn't go because year 4 is based on the assumption they have that fully immersed language experience.
Spain is quickly ramping up their vaccine program so don't foresee any problems
