Declining an interview

My DS applied for uni and I feel he was pressured by college into doing so. He’d already told me he wasn’t going to apply, as he didn’t think he would meet the entry requirements and would need to resit Biology. He had also had a bit of a change of heart and has applied for some apprenticeships, but if nothing comes of these, he is open to applying to the same uni next year. Bearing this in mind, how does he go about declining the interview? Does he do it through UCAS, or should he email? If so, what would be the best way to word it?

Thank you
