I know that they are a couple of petitions doing the rounds, but this one is doing quite well since it was launched earlier today. Please sign & share.

Signed - it is nearly at 3000 now.
Be good to get a high profile person to retweet it, if anyone knows one who might support it.

Pepermintea · 12/04/2021 21:37

Thanks @Hoghgyni
@Hondajazzhands it would be great if a high profile person could retweet it!

JulesJules · 12/04/2021 21:49

I've signed and shared. D1 had already seen this - it was on one of her WhatsApp groups (Oxford)

LOLeater · 12/04/2021 22:14

Signed.

Hairdressers open. Pub gardens open. Gyms open. Schools open. But Uni students are not even mentioned. I feel so sorry for these (mostly young) people who are getting such a diluted experience behind screens.

At least let them have some face to face tutorials or seminars....

Flyonawalk · 12/04/2021 22:18

Thank you @Hoghgyni. Let’s hope this gets a response.

Signed.

We can’t sleepwalk into unis being treated more strictly than colleges, sixth forms etc

Gov should be supporting unis to open up. Also unis seem to be really varying in their approach - some are being amazingly proactive in finding solutions and others less so. Pls share with your student and sign yourself 👍

It was a really good discussion, half an hour from 10 am (you will be able to hear it on BBC Sounds once the Naga programme has finished)

She interviewed a third year student who spoke so well about the effects on her work and her mental health. I really hope some of this is played to ministers and have them reflect on what they are really asking of these young people.

Also an impressive interview with the head of Universities UK - I cannot understand why she has not been interviewed on the mainstream news.

Newgirls · 13/04/2021 12:26

Great that it’s being discussed with more nuance on media.

I think some people think unis have returned. Some students returning to their uni cities and working alone in their bedroom is not ‘returned’,

Newgirls · 13/04/2021 12:28

Ps just saw a fb ad for a business course with lectures by people from Netflix etc rather than by ‘teachers’. Cost £765. Unis being online opens them up to competition that I don’t think most of them are remotely prepared for.

Number of signatures rising steadily.

Flyonawalk · 13/04/2021 14:34

Guardian website now saying that ministers are expected to confirm delayed return to 17 May (if not later). How unbelievably poor.

Let’s keep it circulating. Latest news is no return to campus before May 17th. Disgusting treatment of young people.

Bakeandyarn · 13/04/2021 19:43

Signed too, still haven’t forgotten the PM’s promise to “make it up to students”, not sure how he’s planning to fulfil this!

Flyonawalk · 13/04/2021 19:57

The PM boasted about the £50 million hardship fund available (to the UK’s two million students). That means they get £25 each.

Hoghgyni · 13/04/2021 20:21

They've added £15m today for home & international students, postgrads & undergrads.

OP posts:
Flyonawalk · 13/04/2021 20:22

Oh lovely. That’s an extra £7.50 each. They can spend it in the recently-opened pubs.

Hoghgyni · 13/04/2021 20:24

DD got bumped from her pub booking yesterday. The pub must have realised that the £7.50 won't go far either.
