@g1c2d3 - the atmosphere was really good when we visited, quite buzzing and friendly. I felt a bit sorry for the students as the main central area was filled with different “stalls” for offer holders day eg year in industry, accommodation, learning support, plus a few sports societies (I think)
The outdoor sports courts were all being used when we left, not that this will interest DD, she’s much more into the gym and dancing than hockey or football!

g1c2d3 · 27/05/2021 20:26

Hopefully our children will have the full experience of student life and not spend the year studying online in their bedrooms.

Notagardener · 27/05/2021 21:00

AvacadoPlant, regarding the outdoor sports courts. I happened to be at a uni campus yesterday (not student related) and saw 2 groups of dancers dancing outside. And yes, it was quite busy with all kind of sports groups

AvocadoPlant · 27/05/2021 21:15

@Notagardener - excellent!!
I now have visions of ballerinas twirling and leaping among footballers trying to play a match

Notagardener · 27/05/2021 21:33

1 group looked they were doing Irish dance, on a little piece of grass next to the parking lot..

So DD tell me she’s completed her student loan application this morning, very impressed, but also slightly concerned as I’ve no idea what she put!!

@AvocadoPlant

So DD tell me she’s completed her student loan application this morning, very impressed, but also slightly concerned as I’ve no idea what she put!!
Probably should have just overseen it, just to check. It is pretty simple if you are just going for the basic loan, no need for parental input, but if you are after anything extra, she would have needed your details.
AvocadoPlant · 28/05/2021 12:55

@BigWoollyJumpers I agree!

I had offered to help her complete it this afternoon but she did it this morning while I was out.
Unfortunately she doesn’t qualify for anything more than the minimum loan so hopefully it was quite easy, she even managed to upload some additional documents relating to her dyslexia and applied for accommodation too!
I’ve sent you a PM

MarchingFrogs · 28/05/2021 15:46

All she would have needed was your (and your OH"s, if relevant) email address, so that you could be contacted to get you to set up an account as 'supporter' of the claim for the means-tested bit of the loan, not your actual financial details.

AvocadoPlant · 28/05/2021 16:41

Thank you @MarchingFrogs, it looks like she done it correctly

AvocadoPlant · 29/05/2021 13:54

Sorry this has been bugging me & I typed it!
It looks like she did it correctly

Has everyone’s dc firmed / insured their offers? Ds still has no idea - he’s got it down to 3 but that’s it - Bristol, Manchester & QMUL. He’s off to Bristol this week to see the town / Uni etc (he’s been to Manchester and QMUL). He thinks he may be leaning towards Bristol but not sure - their offer is highest at AAA and the others are ABB.

MarchingFrogs · 01/06/2021 15:07

UEA firmed for History of Art here, with Sussex as insurance (both chosen for course content, campus and location, the temptation to be the third out of three DC to attend Birmingham resisted, as it didn't match up to the final the others on the first criterion).

Longtimenewsee · 01/06/2021 16:40

Durham and Edinburgh firmed and insured here.
@MarchingFrogs- Norwich is such a fab city .. great choice!

fayebebaby · 01/06/2021 17:02

Loughborough and Liverpool firmed and insured

boys3 · 01/06/2021 20:45

another Loughborough firm here. Can't say I'm 100% confident.

Longtimenewsee · 02/06/2021 00:21

I don’t think any of us can be @boys3. I’m trying to be positive that the TAGs will be ok for all our dc but there are bound to be some bitter disappointments.

Longtimenewsee · 02/06/2021 00:23

@KittyMcKitty.. those are great offers.

BigWoollyJumpers · 02/06/2021 14:22

Exeter and Warwick firm and insurance. I think I said before, that Exeter is a lower offer than Warwick, but they are the only two she would consider, having not got an offer from Oxford. They all started at 3 x A, but Exeter reduced to AAB for putting as firm. So we assume she is going to Exeter Grin.

KittyMcKitty · 02/06/2021 14:29

Well done to all the dc who’ve made their decisions (and what fantastic offers / choices). Hopefully ds will make a decision after visiting Bristol- it’s all proving rather painfully drawn out at the moment!

LeiatheSchnauzer · 02/06/2021 21:36

Dd1 firmed Durham and insured Bristol the other week. She wanted to get a few assessments under her belt to feel a bit more confident about her potential grades.
@MarchingFrogs, I did History of Art at UEA many years ago, absolutely loved the university and Norwich.

MarchingFrogs · 02/06/2021 22:12

@LeiatheSchnauzer, DS2 is very excited about being in the Sainsbury Centre and - since a couple of weekends ago, when I treated him to lunch there when we visited for the Bill Brandt/ Henry Moore exhibition - the idea of saving up his pennies for the occasional meal in the Modern Life CaféGrin.

LeiatheSchnauzer · 03/06/2021 09:43

The Sainsbury Centre is an awesome place to have as your department! I have graduation photos of us hanging by the Henry Moore Smile

derekthe1adyhamster · 03/06/2021 10:26

We visited Exeter over the last couple of days, which although lovely, didn't match Birmingham so will be a solid insurance. I think the bursary support from Birmingham was the cherry on top for him, although he was already leaning that way from course content.

GaribaldiGirl · 04/06/2021 13:30

We did lightning trip to Exeter (Streatham) yesterday as son has never visited any of the universities from which he has offers. Most peculiar situation to be in. But he liked it so he’s firmed his offer there. His offers are for 2022 so we decided he can always reapply if he visits York/Norwich/Penryn in his gap year.
