InvestIn Summer Internship (dentistry)

Ds is applying for dentistry for 2022 and we have just come across the above opportunity. It's 10 days shadowing in KCL and another teaching hospital. The cost is £1350 which is very expensive for us but doable. My question is do these opportunities really add the "gold star" to the UCAS form as the company claims? Will attendance add much weight to their application? For the cost I need it to be value for money.

I don't have an answer, but I've wondered the same for my dd who wants to go into Medicine. Were you on their zoom session last night? My dd is younger so I wouldn't pay for internship this year, in case I spend the money for her to change her mind, but I do wonder for next summer if it's worth the expense or not.

No, wasny aware they had a zoom session? Ds is doing the young dental (online) course at the beginning of March though.
I think the internship would be great to give you something to talk about at your interview, especially as lots of teaching hospitals will not be allowing work experience due to COVID. I would be interested in how admissions rate these internships, are they just a money making scheme or do they offer an 'edge?'.

I think these courses are good for helping your dc get an overview of the career they are considering. But I would not necessarily see it as something the uni would take into account.

My DC have attended weekend courses with InvestIn- one in person on a banking course a couple of years ago. Other was supposed to do medicine weekend last year - but got postponed and was online in the summer. Both said they were useful.
