When does child benefit stop for 18 year old

Hi so my daughter is at college.. she turns 18 in may and her course will end a bit after ( not sure when) I'm trying to sort out finances as I'm a single parent and I'm worried how it will affect me. I realise child benefit will stop and so will the universal credit element I get for her. Was just wondering if anyone else is in or has been in the same position and know roughly when the child benefit stops?

August will be the final payment.

@titchy thank you for replying ! Will this include the universal credit? Or just the child benefit?

The UC as well, sadly. Or at least the child tax credits did and I can’t see UC being more generous.

Yeah it's always the August after their 18th. Brutal for August born, nicer for September.

Yes, it all stops in the August. I too am a single parent and it is really hard. My sons dad decided that he no longer needed to support him either. His idea is he is 18 [ he would have stopped paying at 16 if he could ], he no longer needs to help. So it was a large chunk of income gone at the same time.

@Londonnight I'm in the same position.. her dad can't wait to stop paying. I'm desperately worried how worse off I'll be so want to get prepared I guess. She wants to get a job and contribute to the house but with coronavirus I don't see what job she'll be able to get. Her driving lessons have been put on hold so she will be limited. I feel sorry for her.. she spent her 17th birthday in a lockdown and it's looking like her 18th will be as well.

@lardass88, It isn't easy. It's everything, not just losing UC and child benefit, it is the extra council tax I had to find as my son was no longer in education. I argued with my son's dad that morally he should still pay even if he gave the money to his son, but he was adamant, son was 18 that was the end of any help. I can't understand why anyone would do that to their child, his dad knew his son wasn't working at the time and he knew I was on minimum wage, but he just didn't care.

Luckily my son is fantastic and he got a full time job so contributes to the household [ just me and him ], but I am still very short each month. Good luck to you, I hope it works out better than it did for me.

I've just got my letter today and payment stops early September, so last payment in August? My DD has just turned 18.
