Open University EMA

I am sure that I have read somewhere in OU literature that in the EMA most students score lower than in their TMA's.

I can't seem to find it now though, can anyone help point me in the right direction?

I suspect that varies between modules. Some EMAs are very similar to TMAs and there's no reason why students would do any worse. Some are a major essay, longer than anything in TMAs, and they might be rather different.

The EMAs I did were multiple choice and open book, so I scored much higher than in the TMAs. I did a social science degree

There should be a range of marks somewhere from previous years. Sorry I don't have a log on anymore but perhaps with external examiners reports or on module page ? I was told this for my History modules ...EMA was exam and it absolutely wasn't true in my case.

If you go to student home, then help, then exams you can find the grading for last few years exams (or emas).

I think the logic is, they find that when combining all knowledge gained from the whole 30/60 credits students do less well that a tma on a small portion of that 30/60 credits.

FWIW I’ve done worse on EMAs/Exams generally not catastrophic but say going from 90s to 80s or 80s to 70s.
