How exciting! What is he interested in in terms of subjects and or job?
School should be good at matching his abilities to a suitable uni and course

Queenofthesilverdollar · 09/01/2021 23:48

He is doing History, Politics and Eng lit. He loves all 3 and learning generally but his passions are politics and poetry.

He isn’t sure what he wants to be prime minister one day!!

I am really excited for him and v impressed with his work ethic (if he didn’t look so much like me I’d think I’d picked the wrong one up at hospital 😀. I was sooo lazy at school

I'd like to join this thread
I haven't a clue either never went to uni
My dd wants to go to John Moores in Liverpool. We are from Ireland she attends school in Ni
She wants to study International Travel has an interest in Border security and Aer hostess.
She is studying one A level and 2 Btec
From what I read she needs 112 points for this course I don't know if it Is possible with mix off subjects she has.
She is working very hard so far.
I'm proud off her for wanting to go to uni and will do what I can to help so I will watch this thread with interest for any advice.

@Andi2020, if you / your DD searche(s) UCAS tariff points, you can see what grades in each of the qualifications she is taking will make up a total of 112. I can't remember the BTEC points but for A level, it goes A* = 56, A = 48 and so on, down in 8 point increments. So 112 in A levels would typically be BBC (40+40+32).

You can look at university prospectuses online now. The UCAS webpage is also full of info on applying. You and he can also start thinking about his personal statement and what experiences, achievements and interests he might want to write about. The Student Room has lots of chat threads about uni courses. Some are really useful, some not so much. Good luck

He can search by course here to see which universities might be attractive to him. www.theguardian.com/education/ng-interactive/2020/sep/05/the-best-uk-universities-2021-league-table
