Is there an ongoing thread for distance learning support/encouragement?

Had a look at thread titles but couldn’t see anything. I wondered if there are a few MNers doing a degree or similar via distance learning, OU etc.

I’m hoping to finally return to mine after a very long break!

Think in this day and age we're ALL flipping doing a distance learning one! Mine is technically a university campus based one - but it's 99% online and I can't go onto campus for the 1% so it seems to now have become a distance learning one.

Mine is pretty much distance learning now. Healthcare course so obviously some elements face to face (like clinical placements) but otherwise the theory is taught online.

Who are you studying with ? Most institutions will have a FB group for students and individual courses should be setting up mechanisms allowing you to communicate with fellow students.

Well yes, that is true aaahwoof 😩 it’s such a shame. I liked in person tutorials etc. I hope that later in the course things get a bit more normal. What are you studying?

Hi badger glad you can still have placements, is it more limited now?

I need to finish my statement today - basically I started an OU degree years back but had to drop out a few times due to health, which put me on restricted status. I ignored it for years but finally feel ready to study again, but I have to submit a statement and evidence, then they decide if I can try again. The person on the phone was pretty reassuring.

I have to find out about finance still though - when I started you just paid a lesser amount per module, now it’s student loans etc.

Probably OU mdh so if I am allowed to continue with them I’ll definitely look up a relevant FB group too :)

Sorry - I name changed. Mine's also a healthcare course @DunravenBadger - loads of us have lost our placements though since they were in special schools and the like who've pulled the offer and are hunkering down on minimal people around. I'm waiting to hear if my application to defer mine - basically to shunt it along till after Easter in a more condensed block - is accepted because my mental health has completely collapsed now.

I'm doing Speech and Language Therapy - love the course and the content but it's getting soul destroying sitting here on my own day in day out ... well now the kids' school is closed - on my own is not really achievable!

DunravenBadger · 10/01/2021 09:05

Thankfully as it currently stands, we are still on placement but seeing vastly reduced numbers of patients - as in maybe 2-4 a day if we are lucky. Also a great reduction in the types of appointments going on. We did miss out on a heck of a lot of placement last year though and were pulled out for months.

@CoffeeWithCheese it is soul destroying isn't it. My mental health took a huge hit when I wasn't on placement. I really struggle with being at home on my own all day trying to study without face to face support from peers or lecturers. Hope your request is accepted.

Good morning all!

Do you mind if I join? I start my Law Masters degree next month and, as like everybody else, it is all online! This has actually worked nicely for me as it means I can still work full time and not have to leave the world of employment to go and study. I am doing my studies part time online, so rather than taking 9 months it'll take 18, but that's okay as I'm in no rush! 😅

Best of luck to everybody in their studies 💕 Knowledge is power 💪🏻 and no qualification is EVER wasted! 🔥

Hello! I'm a biology student with the OU. Have to admit I'm finding it hard at mo with everyone always being at home. What I would give for a few days at home alone to study in silence...
