2022 Applications

I haven't seen a thread yet for Y12s preparing for 2022 so I thought I would start one.

DS is thinking of Maths and/or Computing (we all think a combination is a good idea but not sure how many unis offer it).

DH and I both went to uni but everything has changed so much since then in terms of teaching, accommodation, finances and the application process. It feels too early to start looking at choices but equally I am a bit panicky that we know NOTHING about how to apply.

School haven't broached the topic with Y12 yet.

Hi @KeithLeMonde we have a thread over in secondary for Y12 not just for HE but chat about everything really. My Nephew applied for a deferred maths place last year...he came unstuck by not doing the extracurricular exam (STEP) with Durham. You could start by having a look at the UCAS website ? Most except the extremely rich get the maintenance loan and parents expected to top up.

Should say get at least

Applicants for 2022 entry can start making an account towards the end of this academic year, but can't submit their application until early September. A lot of schools have their talks about the process later on in year 12, rather than at the beginning.

Our school starts all the UCAS info for year 12 from end of January in year 12 so it is probably all about to start.

Hi KeithleMonde. As others have said it’s early yet but it will come around all too soon.

A couple of friend’s DC’s are currently year 13 and just applied for Maths and Computer Science. Both have applied to Oxford, other places they have mentioned are Imperial , Birmingham, Exeter, Bristol and Bath I think from memory .

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I know I'm starting early, I guess I just feel a bit overwhelmed by everything we don't know. DS is on track for good A Level results and I am vaguely aware that if he decides that he wants to try for one of the top places, we might regret missed opportunities at this point. Having said that, I have history on overthinking things Grin
