Exeter University accommodation

Dd is sure she wants to go to Exeter University and got a good, lowish, achievable offer yesterday.

Does anyone have any knowledge or recommendations about first year accommodation? Obviously she hasn't been able to go and see any. Any halls that are particularly nice?

Just be aware there's a chance she won't get any of her accommodation choices and may end up off campus.
My dd didn't get any of her choices despite meeting accommodation offer by firming Exeter and getting her offer confirmed on results day. Accommodation application was made as soon as it opened.
But she sat watching everyone online discussing which accommodation they got for days and not hearing anything. Then finally days later got an email to say they had no accommodation left so they put her in Point Exe which is off campus and run by a private company.
Her room is ok but there's no social area apart from kitchen in her flat. Outside there's just a courtyard.
She's very disappointed after visiting and deciding which blocks she liked the look of. We'd never heard of Point Exe before. No one she has met there chose to live there. It very much feels like an overflow reflect block.

Yes I see for Holland there are 2 applications for every room!

My DD was in Birks Grange last year and really liked it. Had a lovely room/bathroom and the flat had a big kitchen area. The hill up to campus was a pain at first but she got used to it and being very close to the Imperial pub was a big advantage!

Shame Moberly has been pulled down - cheap but cheerful and had a great time there Grin

There's a brand new block now at Moberly.

@Snozzlemaid meh I bet it’s all posh and boring now. I’m off to google!

@snozzlemaid Dd also ended up at Point Exe but got really lucky with her kitchen and they shared a house in 2nd year. It really depends on your luck there tbh.

Snozzlemaid · 05/12/2020 08:36

@Maladicta Completely. Dd has been unfortunate that her flatmates are ok but don't want to get together in the evenings or invite her if they go out. So she's felt quite isolated there.
The rooms are nice though and indeed much better than some on campus accommodation we saw.
