I am v interested in doing this course by correspondance - I think I have found a legit course - the ITTT, which seems to be accredited by IATQUO, or are they a bogus accreditation org? (ooh, I am a cynic!). Does anyone else know of another correspondance/online course in this area?

I looked in to this a few years ago and remember that there are courses that are worth doing (i.e. you will get a job) and others that are fairly worthless. I found this careers info from a reputable info that gives details of courses, providers etc. Hope it is of use.
If you are planning to teach in the UK, you will find you really need to be available during school holidays when the school/university aged foreign students come over to do courses.

Lilymaid, thank you very much indeed - I will peruse. I am currently living in Germany, and when I was discussing this with my babysitter, she said that there was a huge demand for it locally, which made me think it may be a goer. Thanks again for the info.

I worked as a TEFL teacher in Germany for a few years - no shortage of work, even for newly-qualified with no experience. I did a residential course for 4 weeks - not sure what you would do about classroom practice on a correspondence course...

never heard of any correspondence course at celta level that would be worth paper written on
do you want a course for the certificate to get a job or just for ideas on how to teach efl?
you cold see if british council or other efl org runs celtas in germany?

I want to do it properly - not just a buckshee certificate. I have just been looking at intesol, which seems to be accredited, but I am handicapped by never having heard of the accreditation orgs (which doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I am ignorant!)

Is there a Volkshochschule where you live? I used to work for the VHS in Munich and you could start working for them without the qualification as long as you got it within a year. And they could tell you which courses they accepted. They are a huge provider of adult education and a reputable employer. Good luck - I really liked it.
