I’m applying for a BSc starting next Sept, just wondering if any other mature students around in the same position who might value a support thread on this?

How’s everyone getting on, any news?

I’m still waiting on the interview date to come through. Doing some light interview preparation...it may not be until the Spring!

I did too - DP made me hide my phone after checking approx 10x in a 1 hour period.

I hope you get a response soon!

Interview is in 2 weeks. I’m prepping! It feels good now there’s a focus and I don’t have to wait too long.

Hi all can I join?

I'm returning to uni to do a part time masters in April 21.
Just starting my online application so early days yet.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 05/01/2021 12:35

Welcome @netflixandmixedgrill. That’s exciting, what are you going to be studying?

I’m quite jealous of those starting in Jan and April 2021, mine’s not until September and it feels like an age away!

OP posts:
netflixandmixedgrill · 05/01/2021 14:13

@BillStickersIsInnocent

It's in policy and management, part time so should take me 2 years to complete. Not the most exciting but good career wise.

I saw very few with April start dates so very impressed they are still doing this! Possibly because it's mainly online. However with the way things are at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if they put back the April start to September and have us all run together.

What are you planning to do in September? Smile

BillStickersIsInnocent · 05/01/2021 15:54

That does sound interesting, does it include policy development?

I’m off to train as an Occupational Therapist. 3 years BSc.

I believe so, I'm nervous as it's the first a brand new course. Unsure how I feel about paying such a large amount of money to be a Guinea pig.

Oh interesting! My friend retrained in that recently. What made you go for it?

carpingon · 06/01/2021 00:37

Hello 👋

Hope it's ok to join.

I just sent my UCAS application off today for Sept entry. Am extremely excited as never thought I'd be in this position.

Sept is AGES away !

MatureStudent21 · 06/01/2021 00:48

Hello @carpingon! Hopefully you’ll start to get some responses soon. Have you applied to just one course or a few? Do you want to say what you’ve applied for?

@BillStickersIsInnocent - as your course is clinical, will you still have face-to-face teaching even if Covid is still causing havoc?

carpingon · 06/01/2021 00:57

Hi @MatureStudent21 Smile

Yes I've just applied for the one course at my nearest Uni, I did a short course designed to get adults back into learning. I'm in my 40's with a family so not looking to go far.

I'm going to study Liberal Arts - Will major in English Lit.

Was a great feeling clicking send Smile

BillStickersIsInnocent · 06/01/2021 08:36

It does feel so good doesn’t it.

@MatureStudent21 I believe so. Initially I think last March most healthcare courses were moved online, and placements postponed. But since September most face to face teaching has been back and placements restarted. So I’m hopeful come September this year it’ll be in good shape.

@netflixandmixedgrill I wanted a change work wise and looked at all the things I enjoyed doing in a job and am good at - working directly with people, helping people fulfil their potential, working in a team, problem solving. I also wanted something that would enable me to live anywhere in the country, and had reasonable job security. Then I looked for careers that would give me that - Occupational Therapy was one option and after talking with lots of people and finding out more the more it appealed. It’s a really varied role working in lots of different settings, and gives you the chance to make a real difference to people’s lives. I’m so looking forward to it!

Congratulations on your place OP!

I'm currently half way through a foundation year at university. It's been absolutely amazing though currently the stress levels are through the roof as I try and complete essays and homeschool 2 dcs.

Everything has been online apart from 2 face to face seminars which has been a learning curve in itself. Actual teaching doesn't resume until February fortunately, have got an essay and maths exam to be in in a couple of weeks tho. Might need an extension possibly but am ploughing on as best I can.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 06/01/2021 08:49

Hello Frouby and thank you Smile

How have you found the online teaching? I can imagine doing essays alongside homeschooling is really tough.
