Carrying on from our previous thread.

I believe these threads have probably been running since the summer/autumn of when our DC were about to start/in Year 13 (so 2018)?

Incoming duplicated post:

*DS just phoned in a strop having left the enormous queue at Morrison's. Says he might have to just starve to death.

He does love a bit of melodrama...*

He has confirmed since then that he has 2 day past use by chicken and some 'kyung pjo' sauce that he will 'have to manage with'. I guess the salmonella will get him first then..

Zandathepanda · 02/11/2020 20:47

My little bro and his flatmates ate similar Piggy. Big first year flat of 17. Only 2 toilets. Grim.

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 21:07

Niiiice.

icanbewhatiwant · 02/11/2020 21:32

@Piggywaspushed the chicken will be fine if it smells ok. I'd eat it after sniffing it...mind you judging by all the males in my house, they don't have much of a sense of smell. So maybe they'd not notice.

Benjispruce2 · 02/11/2020 21:49

Hmm did someone say no sense of smell?Shock

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 21:53

I told him to smell it but I think he would then just 'decide' it smelt bad and order a pizza!

But, yes, no good if you ahve developed a sudden loss of sense of smell!! I wonder if he'd notice....

mum2eim · 02/11/2020 22:42

Place marking. Thanks for new thread. I had a sad DD on the phone this morning just with all the uncertainty about the next few weeks. She's only just got back to her sport this week. It is all a bit rubbish for them Sad

Alicatz66 · 03/11/2020 08:49

I'm so cross !! ... Nottingham Uni had posted on Facebook and a load of locals jumped on whining about students partying... along with links from Daily Mail ( of course) ... then in Birmingham where I live people are blaming students for spreading the virus ..... all they see is a few irresponsible people .... my DS and his housemates are staying in !!! .. it makes me so mad !!!

simbobs · 03/11/2020 08:53

Mine had his last climbing session yesterday, determined to get it in before the lockdown. I hope he was sensible and stocked up a bit as soon as this lockdown was mooted as he really struggled last time. I will ask him later. I went to Sainsburys for a routine shop yesterday and the toilet roll aisle was empty already!

Zandathepanda · 03/11/2020 09:30

I got loo roll from my Click and Collect but not my wine Haloween Sad
I will have to make do with the gin from the back of the cupboard Halloween Grin as I believe it doesn’t go off?!

Zandathepanda · 03/11/2020 09:31

Have to have a glass in hand for bake-off night!

Ginfordinner · 03/11/2020 10:04

No wine for me tonight. It was my birthday yesterday and I overindulged a little.

bigTillyMint · 03/11/2020 11:34

@Benjispruce2, DS was in The Stag as soon as it reopened Grin They also had their first official match of the season on the weekend, praying it’s not the last - apparently the uni are looking into rules.

@Alicatz66, it’s rubbish that students are being blamed for the spread - the areas with the highest rates are NOT student areas. And do they even know whether those attending raves were students, or were they just young people? Angry

Ginfordinner · 03/11/2020 11:38

The police broke up a rave in Sheffield at the weekend, and issued 9 £10,000 fines, plus several £200 fines in our area. It isn't just students.

Alicatz66 · 03/11/2020 11:41

I know ! It makes me angry .. I live in a very studenty part of Birmingham and they are all bimbling around in their Birmingham Uni masks ... which is a lot more than can be said about lots of the locals 😡

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/11/2020 12:38

Suspect the ones blaming the students will not be observing the rules thoroughly themselves, by and large!

Happy Birthday Gin. I will raise a glass of gin in your honour!

simbobs · 03/11/2020 14:49

A belated Happy Birthday @ginfordinner. Few of us will have had a restriction free birthday this year. What a thought. We had got to a point of gifting experiences rather than 'things' but that has become rather difficult.
I spoke to DS earlier and he was quite mortified at the idea that there may be shortages in the supermarket already. He cannot physically carry and store enough food for more than 6 days, apparently, and is limited as to where he can shop as he is on foot. I know that there is plenty in the supply chain but it is annoying when they are out of some of the things you want.
I broached the subject of doing a placement next year versus cutting down to a 3 year course. He has evidently not given it much thought and doesn't seem to know much about the process of going either route. DH took about 5 minutes to find several companies that appear to be offering work placements but I don't think my lad wants to join the adult world much.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/11/2020 15:57

Yes a belated Happy Birthday to you @ginfordinner!

DS has just been in touch to say that lord of students are leaving Newcastle and going home, including his entire tutor group! His flat are all staying though. He said he thinks it’s mainly panic that they won’t get back for Christmas.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 03/11/2020 15:59

Loads not lord.

Baytreemum · 03/11/2020 16:02

Happy birthday for yesterday @Ginfordinner!

Baytreemum · 03/11/2020 16:04

Yes, three of my DD’s close friends have gone home from Durham and DD1’s bf has also gone home. Sad times x

LaBelleSauvage123 · 03/11/2020 16:32

It’s really sad especially as DS was hoping to meet up outside with one of his tutorial group members at a time! Thank goodness his flat have gelled so well.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 03/11/2020 16:33

And yes, happy belated birthday Gin! I had my 60th in Sept and had to change my plans considerably! Was still fun though.
