Carrying on from our previous thread.

I believe these threads have probably been running since the summer/autumn of when our DC were about to start/in Year 13 (so 2018)?

Yes DD2 approaching 17 and no driving lessons at the moment! DD2 enjoying being back with her uni housemates (all have returned) and it’s a good job as DD2 having live A level lessons and DH wfh a couple of days a week. Our broadband is not the best plus limited desk space.
I’m getting au fait with Zoom and Teams at school. Halfway through January (wet not dry) so keep safe all!

Benjispruce2 · 13/01/2021 18:26

DD1 enjoying uni not DD2.

Benjispruce2 · 13/01/2021 18:27

I agree @VanCleefArpels

VanCleefArpels · 13/01/2021 18:43

@Benjispruce2 yes DD back with her household now, and my first workday tomorrow since she left- looking forward to not dropping offline every 10 mins (2 others also working at home!)

Ginfordinner · 13/01/2021 19:11

@zandathepanda I am firmly of the opinion that dry January is not a good idea this year. It is dark all day, the news is bleak so depriving ourselves of something that we might enjoy is a hair shirt too far.

I'll drink to that Grin
I'm still rationing how much I drink, but I don't want to be completely joyless at the moment. Six out the eight occupants of DD's house have returned. Most are doing STEM degrees and need to be back. One of her housemates went to Brazil for Christmas as she is half Brazilian and has family there. I don't know whether she has managed to get a flight back, as her original flight was cancelled.

DD said that her friend was going to isolate in the house rather than at home, but I'm not sure that it is a good idea given the latest news from Brazil.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 new thread needed! Again!

Zandathepanda · 14/01/2021 00:24

We fill them up quick don’t we!?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/01/2021 15:53

Sorry, I'll get on the case now. It would be nice if we reached 1000 posts so do carry on posting while I put the new thread up!

I'm doing Dry January for my sins. Doing okay so far (only another 17 days to go!). I did over a month without alcohol before the December lockdown as well which I found really easy. I'm veritably polishing my Halo before it slips Wink.

Maybe I'll do dry Feb instead. After all, it is a shorter month.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/01/2021 16:33

@simbobs sounds like a plan! I'm not convinced I feel better for it yet though!

One of DD's housemates is stuck in Brazil, and now she has no idea when she can fly home as all flights to the UK from South America have been banned.

In the menatime here are some pretty pictures of the snow we have had today.

Ginfordinner · 14/01/2021 18:22

Well, I tried to post more pictures but it wouldn't let me. Here is another. And our grocery order was cancelled because the drivers can't get through.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/01/2021 18:28

Oh that looks pretty @Ginfordinner. I have not seen so much as a flake of snow fall around our way - yet.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/01/2021 19:09

@Ginfordinner that's lovely. We don't get much snow where I live in east anglia. When we do it never lasts long. The beast from the east was the first proper snow my youngest could remember (he's almost 12 now) I thought about the housemate you were speaking of in Brazil when they made the announcement, she might not get here for a while.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 14/01/2021 19:36

That’s beautiful Gin - very jealous!

mum2eim · 14/01/2021 19:46

That’s beautiful @Ginfordinner. DD said it snowed heavily overnight in Durham and then it’s rained today. I love fresh snow. It makes everywhere so peaceful.

Ginfordinner · 14/01/2021 20:11

We are on the edge of the Pennines and over 550 feet above sea level, so we get more snow than people 5 miles away in town.

Alicatz66 · 15/01/2021 11:46

I'm doing dry January... it's killing me !!!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/01/2021 15:06

@Alicatz good for you. Appreciate it's not easy though, particularly during another lockdown.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18

Gosh *@ZZTopGuitarSolo* that's shocking. Glad your DD is okay (and yay to being able to get out of her room - or possibly not?). Do you think the gunman running amok was related to the Capitol incident last week? Worrying Sad.
It doesn't seem like it was related - he was just a nasty person with a gun. Ugh. Luckily nothing further like that has happened.
Alicatz66 · 17/01/2021 12:29

Have I missed a new thread ?

mum2eim · 17/01/2021 13:29

@Alicatz66 - the link for new thread is further up just above Gin's beautiful snow photo.
