Irish Universities?

Is anyone else’s DC planning on applying to an Irish university or has anyone been to an Irish university/college? We live in the EU not UK so technically an EU university would be better from a finance point of view. There seems to be some good universities in Dublin such has Trinity College. Would love to hear people’s experiences.

I did Law in Trinity College in Dublin, (albeit some years ago now) - message me if you want.

Been following this thread with interest - I have an upcoming interview at an Irish university and know little to nothing about the system there (have always worked in the UK) so this has been very informative!

Lots of academic refugees from the UK headed this way of late, @FraterculaArctica.

Bumping as the CAO is now open. DD has applied today. There is now 10 course choice options available rather than 5. I wonder if this is to ensure everyone gets a place at university off the back of last years outcomes/ deferred places.

There are always 10 choices - you probably have seen this plus there are helpful videos produced by the CAO.

Good luck

@Gaelforce I didn’t realise there was always 10 choices/options. Someone said there was only 5 so I assumed this was a new thing sorry for any false info. Good luck to everyone else applying in Ireland. They’ve also released some of the 2020 data and the matriculated university points per course appear to have shot up exponentially following this summers results. I am hoping that this will settle after the 2021 results.

@Middersweekly - The CAO was a learning curve for me - I had to watch the videos a few times to get my head round it.The points shot up as a result of calculated grades - it was highly unusual and all a bit of a shambles.

Middersweekly · 11/11/2020 11:53

@Gaelforce yes for sure. The link you sent is very helpful. I’ve sent it to DD so she can have a look as she may wish to change some of her options. As for the matriculated grades shooting up. It’s all up in the air for this year as I’m not sure if DD will be sitting exams or not and that goes for anyone doing international A-levels or standard A-levels. Wales has just scrapped their end of year exams. I am hoping it’s not the same shambles this year!
