That's good news, Snozzlemaid - it makes such a difference when they're happy, doesn't it?

ErrrrIDontThinkSo · 19/09/2020 19:53

Great news @Snozzlemaid - hopefully this is the beginning of a much happier time for your DD.

Gymntonic · 19/09/2020 20:00

Ah that is good news @Snozzlemaid

sammyjoanne · 19/09/2020 20:03

@Snozzlemaid thats great news.

Taking DD to York on 29th. Must be the last one to go, all her friends will be gone by then.

We requested ensuite and self catering, but with all the grades mess, she was confirmed late so got a flat of 15 with shared bathroom and catered. I am being positive for her. She is really nervous, and it seems she is the only one on her course in the flat.

specialted · 19/09/2020 21:34

@Snozzlemaid I'm so happy to hear that!

Gymntonic · 19/09/2020 21:45

@BlueSkyBurningBright that's just like my DD. The forced socialising in a larger flat with shared facilities is working just fine for her and in the first day she's had someone to go to the supermarket with and a couple of others who fancied a walk somewhere. She's just messaged to say she's off to a bar with the two new girls who moved in today. Nobody feels obliged to go out but usually someone fancies doing what she wants to do. None of them wanted this accommodation so that's something to talk about anyway.
Hope all goes well for your DD. We really liked York but the course wasn't right

BCBG · 19/09/2020 22:15

I'm not sure about my nerves after catching up on this thread Grin let alone DD's! DD's autism/ADHD means her social skills are t the best abs she can come over as loud or withdrawn - and if it goes tits up in the first day or so and she has a meltdown it will be hard to recover from. She won't talk to me and bites my head off when I try to support expectations and strategies so I have to zip it. She is moving in to Lonsdale College on Wednesday and I'm now also paranoid because she separately wanted to say goodbye to her uncle and aunt who live in Brighton so arranged lunch with them today - and the restaurant had no social distancing between tables and no PPE on staff so generally it was very stressful - and I'm panicking that if we picked anything up today then she couldn't/maybe shouldn't move in on Wednesday and kicking myself for being stupid and going along with the plan. So I'm trying not to be over whelmed and failing right now!

BCBG · 19/09/2020 22:16

Not separately - desperately. Her dad and I were there too.... mad idea really. Brighton was chaos.

Hoghgyni · 19/09/2020 22:30

Snozzle what a relief!

I feel bad for all the ones whose chance of top choices of accommodation was muddled due to exam mix up. Which course is she doing?
MillicentMartha · 19/09/2020 23:12

DS is moving in tomorrow. We’re up in Manchester tonight at DS1’s new flat. Slot booked for 11am tomorrow. He’s quietly excited! Time for bed I think.

Hi @BCBG what course is DD doing?

BCBG · 19/09/2020 23:40

@choirmumoftwo she's reading Law!

GaribaldiGirl · 19/09/2020 23:53

Uni2020 - it’s interesting that your daughter hasn’t arrived at Edinburgh yet. I thought term started on Monday so they’d all be there. Makes me hope the empty rooms on her lonely empty corridor will suddenly fill up with people and she will love it 😀
DD has been into city with people from her course today, hooray.

Damn Covid. Public enemy number 1.

ForestbytheSea · 20/09/2020 00:12

@Snozzlemaid @GaribaldiGirl I’m glad to hear that both your dd’s have had better days today. My dd’s accommodation has been messed up too. She was supposed to be catered and is now self catered 20 mins away from her college at Durham. She is due to arrive next Sunday. Having read your experiences though, it sounds like self catered may be more sociable.

BackforGood · 20/09/2020 00:20

Glad to have found you all again.
We took dd last Tuesday.
Accommodation was nice and she seems to be happily getting on with her new flatmates and one of the other flats in the block.
It is a relief, even when, deep down, you know they will. Smile

petalpower · 20/09/2020 07:29

@BCBG which college is your daughter going into? Mine is James College and she’s also in catered in a large flat. Just hoping that Boris doesn’t scupper plans to move in next Sunday!

Queenie24 · 20/09/2020 07:45

My dd went back to Cardiff early, she is going into 2nd year and wanted to get back to her friends. She is in student accommodation and it turns out all the other flat mates she has been put with are boys. She has ended up coming home this weekend as after being there 3 weeks she missed home and has no money.
DS went to uni on Wednesday and seems to be settling in. The area his university is in went into local lockdown the evening he moved so we cant even go and see him.

petalpower · 20/09/2020 08:01

Sorry @BCBG it was @BlueSkyBurningBright whose DD was going to York. My daughter hopefully goes to York (James College) next Sunday unless Boris does something drastic. She’s also in catered in a large flat.

GaribaldiGirl · 20/09/2020 09:24

@BlueSkyBurningBright - i think the large flat with 15 will be the best possible option in these Covid times. Plenty of people to mix with and there’s bound to be someone she gets on with.

BlueSkyBurningBright · 20/09/2020 09:43

@justyou and @petalpower
Thank for your supportive messages.

DD is doing Environmental Science and she is in Vanbrugh in the centre of campus.

MarchingFrogs · 20/09/2020 09:46

@ForestbytheSea, if your DD is officially a member of a catered college (but presumably not being charged for catering), is there a mechanism whereby she can pay for meals separately and eat in?

petalpower · 20/09/2020 10:08

@BlueSkyBurningBright I’ve been really impressed with York so far. Lots of emails from the college and subject department to my daughter. My nephew graduated from there this summer and my SIL spoke very highly of the pastoral support and college system. I think each flat is being classed as a household so no social distancing needed. Also a large flat gives them plenty of people to mix with as GaribaldiGirl says. There’s no one in my daughters flat doing the same subject as her either.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 20/09/2020 10:44

@choirmumoftwo @specialted @sammyjoanne @BCBG

Another Lancaster mum checking in.

We are moving DS in tomorrow, he is in Pendle Collage and studying Computer Science. I am flapping about packing his clothes and trying to get him to sort out his wardrobe etc and all he is worried about is whether I have bought bubble wrap for his monitors.

BCBG Good luck to your DD reading law, my DD is a trainee lawyer and has just started the second year of her training contract in London.
