Sorry to hear about the positive test Mrs. Such a hard time right now Sad

I dropped ds off yesterday and radio silence since. I just want to know what his flat mates are like as they weren't around yesterday. But I'm not surprised!

geogteach · 28/09/2020 17:56

Just got a message from DS, he has tested positive. 4/5 in his flat have it and 7/45 in his block that he knows of. He has managed to book a delivery slot for later in the week. All teaching has now been moved online so at least he isn't missing anything . I suppose at least he should have some immunity going forward.

sammyjoanne · 28/09/2020 18:27

@MrsMcMuffins It it different to isolating with family, especially with people you don't know very well. And your right, if someone is anxious and has not gelled yet with the flat it must be daunting. I hope your DD Uni gets something sorted for her and gets her the essentials :)

sammyjoanne · 28/09/2020 18:31

@geogteach sorry to hear your DS is positive. That's good he's got a delivery slot though so he has something. hope he gets better soon Flowers

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/09/2020 18:33

@MrsMcMuffins hope your DD gets sorted.
Just spoke to DS in Leeds and they have a confirmed case in their building - on same staircase so just a matter of time...
I have a Tesco delivery booked for 2 weeks time, which may come in handy. That was booked over a week ago and was the earliest available. He has a stash of tins and is going to stock up. At least they have a bit of a pre warning.

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/09/2020 18:35

Someone on WIWIKAU asked why they weren't all booking delivery slots and got told in no uncertain terms that, in areas with restrictions at least, there are no slots!

geogteach · 28/09/2020 18:47

Shauna the sheep which hall? DS booked a slot on Friday and got it for Thursday so just under a week. He is lucky he knows people in other halls who will get him stuff if he needs it.

Eve · 28/09/2020 19:12

@ShaunaTheSheep. Someone on Twitter in response to MMU said mothers were letting them down by not sending money to buy food! 🙄🙄. There some who really are hard of thinking!

GaribaldiGirl · 28/09/2020 19:42

@geogteach - that’s tough.
Does he have symptoms?

TawnyPippit · 28/09/2020 19:55

In breaking news ... my fresher DS has actually done a load of washing today. He’s only been there 8 days 😮

sammyjoanne · 28/09/2020 20:11

@TawnyPippit I dread that. My DD knows how to press a button on our machine at home, but circuit laundry? Its totally alien to her. She will probably be down to the last items of clothing before she does a wash lol.

choirmumoftwo · 28/09/2020 20:26

@sammyjoanne DD tells me she has located the laundry, downloaded the app and uploaded some funds to it. She may even try actually doing some washing in the next few days!

specialted · 28/09/2020 20:58

Ds won't even have thought about laundry. He figured he has 20 pairs of pants so that buys him 20 days before he has to do anything!

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/09/2020 21:01

@geogteach have sent you a PM

Eve · 28/09/2020 22:02

My son thought 10 pairs were enough - we doubled that! 😁😁
JugglingFromHereToThere · 28/09/2020 22:29

I might send my DS some extra pants as his flats in covid quarantine/lockdown in London
Though I guess he could wash them in the basin as he has en suite shower room.
On the plus side they all cooked a roast dinner together today - something to do to keep spirits up and I guess shows that between them they have some grocery provisions. Someone mentioned they had, some kind of delivery though I don't know if friends helped with that. I guess there'll all be helping each other pretty well although that can be a bit more challenging when they've literally only just met!
DS still seems symptom free but 3 others I flat have tested positive, 2 tested negative, and he decided not to have test at moment mainly as doesn't change things much for him on a practical level.
He decided to do cauliflower cheese as his contribution to the roast dinner and called to ask how to make it.
Talked through how to make the sauce and then said add the cauliflower at the end. He said "at the end?" Then he said did he have to cook the cauliflower first then?! Yes, of course, cook the cauli in a pan - boil it - whilst you make the sauce!
I'm glad we cleared that up otherwise it could have been quite a crunchy cauli cheese!
He even put it under the grill with extra cheese on top so I'm sure he did them all proud!

flesh · 28/09/2020 22:59

It's such a huge worry. Not sure if it's been mentioned but lots of mums on WIWIKAU have offered to help take food or help with whatever covering most unis.

It's www. And the name Or just search on Facebook

(Not sure I can post the link)

sammyjoanne · 29/09/2020 00:11

@choirmumoftwo Not sure if shes figured that out yet with the laundry, shes got to sort out SFE as she was meant to be paid 28th and wasnt. So shes going to call them tomorrow. hopefully she will get the app rather than card for the laundry as it does look more easier.

@specialted We counted 17 when we packed together. Im hoping she will do a wash this weekend before lectures start. she been to Glow tonight with her flat mates for 'Skint mondays' UV night and loved it. she said it was very organised and everyone had a table.

@JugglingFromHereToThere sound like hes coping well considering the circumstances :)

Collision · 29/09/2020 01:27

Taking ds to Loughborough Tomorrow.

ShaunaTheSheep · 29/09/2020 07:41

Am I the only one who doesn’t know how much underwear their DC has? Grin

LIZS · 29/09/2020 08:01

Dd successfully negotiated the laundry last week (this is her third week) . You need powder or powder tabs not liquid tabs btw. She also did some habdwashing , one of the benefits of an ensuite so she can put airier in shower. Ds still has his circuit laundry card from his uni hall days, prob still has a balance but long since forgotten the account details!

sammyjoanne · 29/09/2020 08:01

@Collision wishing you a lovely day and hope it all goes well

petalpower · 29/09/2020 08:42

@Justyou how did your York drop off go yesterday?

Justyou · 29/09/2020 08:48

It was good thank you, a couple of cleanliness issues in the flat but once that was sorted she settled in well. Flat mates seemed lovely & lots of help from car to door.
But oh it hurt so bad saying goodbye.

pasanda · 29/09/2020 08:59

Good luck Collision. I was there on Sunday. All very organised and easy to navigate. Not heard much from ds AT ALL but I guess that means he's busy 🤞🤞🤞
