You will get as many people telling you that personal statements are not considered at all as those telling you that they are the key admission criteria, and as many people will say don't forget your grade three ballet results and duke of edinburgh awards as will say that everyone was a prefect, leave it out..... the key is to know how your goal university and more importantly, goal course, deal with them. What's right for one will not be right for all. DD wrote her personal statement directed at the head of the course she wanted, reflecting on things she had heard him say, and it absolutely worked. But it wouldn't have worked for everyone.

Yes, look for UCAS personal statement. You will find there exactly what they are looking for , even a template and videos .

It totally depends on university and course. That is why the best university web sites do tell you what they want and how they select students. Ones size does not fit all. However, even for the most easy to get onto courses, it is a good discipine to think about why you want the course and what you might get out of it. Always listen to what the university says if you attend an open day. What are they looking for? Always works!
