Absolutely. But a strong applicant with a preference for a traditional college may well be disappointed to get an offer from a newly converted college. Unless an applicant genuinely doesn't care, they should steer clear of Open Apps.

Quite. Even if you don't know the details of them all, if you've got any sort of preference then best to pick one. I'm not sure if it would then be worth mentioning in the supplementary info section reasons for the choice eg if a woman specifically wanted one of the remaining women's colleges or if there was some physical reason for wanting a central one. DD knew someone with a physical disability who was pooled to a hill college; fortunately she was considered compassionately and transferred to one which was within her limited walking distance of her department.

@quest1on I haven’t seen anything like that in terms of a breakdown. Interesting though.

As are those stats re pooling. How do you get to that level of info from the admissions stats? I’d be interested for DS’s course.

Predicted grades for Oxford tend to be a first filter. They aren't assigned a percentage.

summerlovinn · 21/10/2020 15:25

Oxford interview dates are now up!

www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/guide/interviews/interview-timetable2

Interesting that some subjects have decided to stay more flexible with giving additional interviews/interviews at different colleges, whereas others are just assigning (2?) dates and times and that's that (DDs subject).
The dates are also much earlier this year compared to normal- the first official day is the 30th of November, so I think it's safe to say we'll find out about interview invitations earlier than in previous years, especially because they need to make video call/technology access arrangements for some etc etc!

Hi there - late joiner to the thread. DS has applied for History at Oxford, UCL, Bristol, Durham and Sheffield. He got an (unexpected) contextual conditional offer of ABB from Bristol about 3 days after his application went which has been a real boost.

DS now sweating over the upcoming HAT and feeling woefully unprepared!

Baaaahhhhh · 21/10/2020 17:21

LaundryFairy. Another History applicant - Welcome Grin.

DD has her first offer - AAB from York. Didnt apply to Bristol because we live there. Waiting to hear from, Warwick, Edinburgh and Lancaster ( and Oxford).

WarmAndco3y · 22/10/2020 09:01

Wow... congratulations to all the early offer holders. Well done to your DC

Pumpkintopf · 22/10/2020 09:17

Well done to your DD @pourmeanotherglass , that's great.

Revengeofthepangolins · 22/10/2020 09:50

I must remember to encourage DS2 to include an early offering university on his list when he comes to do this, assuming he like some of course, as it is so comforting to get something in the bag early doors.
