Just wondering how it will work this year and how the new students will get to make new friends in this strange new world of ours Confused

DD (Edinburgh) mostly online but a few real events - mainly small groups and outside things and sport/exercise things. Hoping for good weather for a week. Won't need to socially distance from her other 5 flatmates so DD is saying even if she hates them they will be her best friends until covid-19 isn't an issue. She's in touch with 3 already via chatgroups and has amassed a good drinks collection to take with her. Will be quite different to DS2s freshers three years ago in a livelier uni (Glasgow) - took him 2 weeks to recover.

Just seen the schedule for my uni's one - it's dire.
Netflix watch party, online cocktail making class, bingo on zoom. They've tried bless 'em.

I think they'll just end up going to the local pubs and bars instead. I don't think it is realistic to think Freshers will keep themselves within the groups they live with. My son has gone back to his third year house & says there's already groups of students socialising that are not housemates. It's bound to happen.

Mostly online.

University claims that a household can be up to around 10 people (in shared accommodation on campus). This means 20 students can be counted as two households and gather together. Hmm

My DD has friends that have gone back to their uni accommodation and apparently there are loads of house parties already. She went out last night (she's still at home) and after a meal they went to find somewhere for a drink. All the pubs etc were fully booked and were only letting people in that wanted to eat. They came home early after unsuccessfully trawling the web to find a table to drink somewhere. If this is the future for students then thank goodness I don't live in any of the areas with high student lets! There will be parties everywhere.
