...if you can use the mocks, then use the mocks but not if they're higher than the CAGs.

And hopefully on to university!

Two weeks today , but it’s Leeds so who knows!

LIZS · 05/09/2020 20:27

Dd will also be going by train, next weekend - eek.

Peaseblossom22 · 05/09/2020 20:51

Ds suddenly announced he had his arrival slot 2 days ago , would have been nice to know Hmm
He has a single room and apparently he is in a household of about 12 and three households form a bubble so that sounds better than I expected . He is ‘apparently’ going to forward the email .

Dh and I just booked a really nice hotel for that evening , ds is our final one off to uni so a qualified celebration seems appropriate Blush.

Swarskid2184 · 05/09/2020 21:20

Shaunathesheep. Leeds here too. Moving in on 19 sept....

specialted · 05/09/2020 21:25

@Peaseblossom22 that sounds like a marvellous idea! May well do
The same!

TheDrsDocMartens · 06/09/2020 08:23

Dd2 in yesterday. Seems happy. Room better than expected, decent size and en suite ok. Didn’t look in the kitchen or lounge (that is locked off for now).

aibutohavethisusername · 06/09/2020 08:48

Still no halls allocation from UCL, one worried Mum here.

KingscoteStaff · 06/09/2020 08:49

Well done Scottish people!

Are most people buying lovely new white bouncy pillows or sending them up with your least-used flatbread style (possibly with the odd coffee stain...)?

I bought new duvet yesterday, but was so shocked at the price I left without pillows. Granny has been asking for ideas for a 'starting uni present', so I might suggest that.

ThingDoer · 06/09/2020 09:20

We ought new duvet and two pillows from Jysk. The pillows were I think £8 and the duvet £12. Single 10.5 tog. She particularly asked not to take scabby pillows from home! I pointed out it's her money to choose with. She is finding this novel and bought a £2 mug just because she loved it! We gave her £200 for everything so she can make choices and start to budget how she spends as not even necessary before.

surreygoldfish · 06/09/2020 09:30

I must admit I went shopping with DS and we’ve just bought new. Feels a bit of an indulgence - I think I’m compensating for the empty nest syndrome. 😬

seedybird · 06/09/2020 09:42

@aibutohavethisusername - I'll hold your hand because Imperial haven't sent out hall allocations yet, either. I guess with the increased numbers, it's become an even harder task for unis in London.

surreygoldfish · 06/09/2020 09:45

DS has a moving in date of the 13th (Exeter) so feels v real .....

Swarskid2184 · 06/09/2020 09:57

Have others DC’s worked out their weekly ‘living’ budget? DD thinks she needs £100/week for everything (her halls rent includes gym membership) - she is self-catering.

specialted · 06/09/2020 10:19

@KingscoteStaff we are going for the flatbread option ! Plus mattress topper and single duvet from his old bed! Will buy him new double bed stuff next year. Have so much single bed stuff from when they were younger it seemed silly to buy more for one year. Ds doesn't seem to mind . Bought new sheets though!

Ironoaks · 06/09/2020 10:19

DS now has his IT login, which gave him access to some useful information about accommodation (including a handbook updated with Covid-19 arrangements). The washing machines and dryers will be free to use, which is one less thing to have to think about.

There's also a list of events for Freshers week. Some are online and others are in person in smaller groups or outdoors.

He will hopefully find out the type of room (and cost) within the next fortnight.

MillicentMartha · 06/09/2020 10:46

I did buy DS a posh pillow from Ikea, memory foam. He got a cheap quilt in compensation!

I bought dd new bedding from Asda. So whilst it's nice and new it wasn't expensive.

Monkey2001 · 06/09/2020 11:22

All moved in! DS got old duvet/pillows because my mum recently downsized and passed on cast-offs, although he did get a new mattress topper. He got his pick of bedding from the cupboard and when we left him, it was nice to see his duvet cover on his bed and the rug from his bedroom - made it all look different but familiar.

He seems to have packed all the right things so far, only thing he knows he has forgotten so far is an adaptor plug for his electric toothbrush.

aibutohavethisusername · 06/09/2020 12:44

seedybird Glad we aren’t the only ones waiting, fingers crossed we all hear soon.

KingscoteStaff · 06/09/2020 14:03

Well done @Monkey2001 - are you on the way back now?

Badgerstmary · 06/09/2020 16:03

Dd has just got moving in date for Exeter too, 13th Sep.

Monkey2001 · 06/09/2020 16:54

Kingscote we came back last night, arrived home 1:30 am. St Andrews is a very long way from SW England!!

Monkey2001 · 06/09/2020 18:42

Packing tip - Sharpie to write name on milk.
