University 2020 :8: Use the CAGs, don’t use the CAGs...

...if you can use the mocks, then use the mocks but not if they're higher than the CAGs.

And hopefully on to university!

We have our moving in slot for Exeter but not yet for York. But looks as if York will be a couple of weeks after Exeter so I'll get a bit of a break between the two (single parent and neither DD has any contact with their father - their choice)

MillicentMartha · 03/09/2020 21:34

Good job they’re not the same weekend, Empra!

Dd finally got her welcome email today so completed all the online forms.
She had to check and confirm the A level results they held for her. For two of her subjects she received As but the grades were showing as AP.
Anyone have any idea what AP is?

Gymntonic · 03/09/2020 21:50

Award pending I think @Snozzlemaid.
Date for moving in set for two weeks time. Accommodation allocated is one usually reserved for international students and details are a bit sparse. Cheap and cheerful anyway and chatting with flatmates.
Getting real now

Snozzlemaid · 03/09/2020 22:02

Thanks Gymtonic
Bit strange though as only one of those grades changed when CAGs were used. So not sure why the other would be pending.

TheDrsDocMartens · 03/09/2020 22:05

I’ve done one today (3rd year) and Got one on sat(1st)

I might be wrong but my DS had this too from his Exeter registration - we thought the 'P' after the A might signify a 'Practical' element to the subject was passed. Happy to be corrected though....Smile
Snozzlemaid · 03/09/2020 23:03

That would make sense. It was for Biology & Chemistry so they do have the practical parts they had to pass.

Gymntonic · 04/09/2020 01:06

Ah yes @Snozzlemaid, @TikkaMoSalah has got it right. The p is for pass which universities require.

Snozzlemaid · 04/09/2020 07:27

Great. Thanks for confirming.

Monkey2001 · 04/09/2020 08:36

Off to St Andrews today! Long drive so we are travelling today to check in tomorrow. Poor DS has a horrible cold (definitely not Covid as his nose is suffering, but no coughing), which makes it difficult to feel excited Sad

specialted · 04/09/2020 09:39

How exciting @Monkey2001 ! Safe journey

thesunwillout · 04/09/2020 09:42

Anyone on here a carer for offspring on PIP.
Have you informed DWP of university start date or when offspring moves out.

Gymntonic · 04/09/2020 10:18

@Monkey2001 I'm hearing that it's sunny and bright in the Trossachs this morning. Enjoy your trip!

aibutohavethisusername · 04/09/2020 16:57

Monkey2001 I hope that you’ve had a good journey. Best wishes to you and your son.

MillicentMartha · 04/09/2020 23:10

@thesunwillout, DS2 gets PIP but didn’t go to uni, he stayed at home and did a HND locally. His home address will still be yours? Will he be getting much support at uni? Will it affect his entitlement?

Exciting Monkey! Is he our first to start?

@MillicentMartha

Hi, DD will be moving away. Will be getting support at uni, DSA and is has contact with support/mental health mentor. So pip needs won't change, plus it's up for renewal in next few months.
Probably won't reapply, can't take the stress.

I believe carers is paid in arrears so I was thinking to phone them a few days before her course starts?

seedybird · 05/09/2020 08:48

@Monkey2001 - Have a good journey and I hope
DS feels better soon

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/09/2020 14:14

And we're all moved in here too!
DS has great room in friendly flat 5 minutes from the Cutty Sark in Greenwich
Was so nice to hear from him yesterday and sounds like he's having a blast!
He's on a trumpet course at Trinity Laban and starts on Monday
That might be a bit of a shock to the system after the last six months!
So glad he's got a few days to settle in first.

specialted · 05/09/2020 15:15

@JugglingFromHereToThere that's great news!

Snozzlemaid · 05/09/2020 16:26

Looking forward to hearing everyone's moving in day stories. My dd goes next Saturday.
The full car pics have started on WIWIKAU page on Facebook. Love seeing these, but partly dreading that being us next week.

MillicentMartha · 05/09/2020 16:50

Still 2 weeks away for us, but now I’m back at work I’m sure it will fly by. 😢

Hopefully one month today. DH keeps telling DD how he managed with two bags taken by ferry & trains with changes. I keep reminding DH that after the first term, he relied on me to provide him with everything else he needed.

DuckyMcDuck · 05/09/2020 17:17

Lovely to hear moving in stories.

We still don't have a moving in date but as DS's course starts on 28th Sept, it will be in the next 3 weeks!

Lidl have their Uni stuff in this week, bedding and kitchen stuff and you can get £5 off (£25 spend) if you download their app.

tantamountto · 05/09/2020 17:18

DD is going by train. She's travelling via a friend who lives nearish her university town and will help her move in. It's a long way from us, so we'll try to visit during the school half term.
