Yeehah! She is into Edinburgh!

LouisBalfour · 13/08/2020 08:51

Very tearful mum and dad here too as our son got his first choice! What a relief!!

mosscarpet · 13/08/2020 08:54

BCD here, was predicted BBC. So we expect downgraded in 2.The B was in drama in which she had already done externally assessed work so I expect this one wasn't downgraded.
Thankfully though her first choice was an unconditional off and has been confirmed so just focusing on the positives.
Thinking of all those dealing with this today.

nofriendsatll · 13/08/2020 08:55

Finally into Track. DS got into his first choice of Manchester Uni (my alma Mayer) Off to do civil engineering. Lots of tears (from me)

Ikeasucks · 13/08/2020 08:55

Predicted grades were A* A B - got BCC. Not particularly happy. Can anyone explsin what input the teachers had?

Ellmau · 13/08/2020 08:55

She said 47% have been downgraded from CAG most at the top end , so A down to a B*

Sounds like they predicted a pretty high percentage of A* grades then.

Bouledeneige · 13/08/2020 08:58

DS got into his firm choice - Sussex and is very happy. He got A*, C, C. Happy with that. Disappointed that one of the C's wasn't a B but fair enough.

Bouledeneige · 13/08/2020 09:00

Can i just check - did you guys ask for CAG grades? Or were they given automatically?

cdtaylornats · 13/08/2020 09:00

Hardly panic driven more an observed reaction to the clusterfuck in Scotland.

YouthClub · 13/08/2020 09:00

A*BB, no idea what his CAGs but he’s happy with those results and into his first choice. Winchester here we come! 🤩

LimitIsUp · 13/08/2020 09:01

Dd got A,C,C
Thoroughly pissed off and indeed mystified by the C in graphics given that in February she got 95/120 in her course work (which would have been 60% of her final grade) i.e. 79% and a comfortable B. Why then award a C?!?!

HostaFireAndIce · 13/08/2020 09:02

Can anyone explsin what input the teachers had?

Teachers had to send off a grade, plus a ranking of students within that grade. These will have been robustly discussed and checked beforehand, but the exam boards do not see the evidence of that, just the grade. Variation from that grade is done by the exam board and is based on statistical modelling about the school's usual performance, not the individual student's. In our experience, they have used the ranking where they have downgraded i.e. the lowest ranked within a particular grade is the one/are the ones who have been awarded a lower grade, but I don't know if that is true for all schools.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 13/08/2020 09:05

Don't know actual grades yet but DD got confirmed place at Durham so we're all very relieved and happy. She did year 12 twice as she was unhappy at her previous school, she changed schools, which meant she fought hard to get into a selective 6th form which then meant three hours of travelling each day and she and has worked really hard so we feel it's well deserved.

Peaseblossom22 · 13/08/2020 09:07

Really sad for all those who missed places , this is brutal and really doesn’t seem much rhyme or reason to it

Cafeconleche · 13/08/2020 09:08

DS has just turned down his firm (Manchester) as they offered him an alternative course. He’s missed his chosen course by a grade/s (no idea what they are yet as school still hasn’t emailed them) and so has accepted his insurance. We are over the moon tbh - he was happy with either and wants to move on. Fingers crossed for everyone else out there. This has been such a stressful time and an utter shitshow

Peaseblossom22 · 13/08/2020 09:10

@Cafeconleche what a very mature young man, many congratulations to him

MrsMcMuffins · 13/08/2020 09:13

DD says results makes no sense in her school. Really strong top performers marked down and low performers marked up. Seems complete chaos.

PavlovianPooch · 13/08/2020 09:13

Distraught here. DD achieved nothing lower than an A at GCEs - mainly equivalent of A and A. Was predicted A A and B at A level. Has been awarded A, B and C. The A was for the subject she was predicted a B in.

Her teacher for the C result (she was predicted an A) told me that the class was the best ever class she had taught in that subject, so it looks as if the kids who weren't at the top were simply downgraded. How the hell is that fair.

She hasn't got into the uni of her choice and we are all so gutted (and I am bloody angry)

Cam77 · 13/08/2020 09:15

Students should have sat their exams. This is a farce.
How come China managed to arrange it safely for ten MILLION students to safely sit their exams. Even in areas also hit by by crazy flooding. Oh AND they have effectively contained the virus which our useless lot haven’t managed to do.

LimitIsUp · 13/08/2020 09:15

Who is appealing? I have sent an email to the exams office at dd's college to appeal her C grade

seedybird · 13/08/2020 09:17

@Campervan69

He got AAB in his mocks BTW and goes to a Grammar School who are very fair at predicting grades.
@Campervan69 - I'm so sorry to hear that.

If it's of any consolation, there's a similar picture at DD's super-selective grammar, where there have been some pretty spectacular downgrades and generally, a very high proportion of downgrades across the board. They're usually very conservative with their predictions and, it has to be said, bang-on the money.

My thoughts are with you Flowers

PavlovianPooch · 13/08/2020 09:18

We are appealing. Absolutely.

Newgirls · 13/08/2020 09:18

Anyone who missed places - the unis will be waiting for phone calls. It’s not over yet x

PavlovianPooch · 13/08/2020 09:19

We have already contacted the uni. DD will only get her place if we appeal and she is awarded the grades she needs.

MrsMcMuffins · 13/08/2020 09:20

DD is at a grammar. Have the grammar school down worse? Seems friends at non grammars haven’t done as badly but that doesn’t make sense.
