Oxbridge 2020 (thread 10) - the path to the first term (just one slight hurdle to clear first)

For better or worse, there is a bit of a bond of mutual experience between parents whose DC go through the Oxbridge application process. Thank you for your companionship so far - and thank you to others who started the earlier threads in this series.

This thread should take us to the start of the first term (whatever form that takes). All welcome here, but for many of us hopefully this will be the place for practical support as we help prepare these peculiar* young adults to spread their wings.

But the first item on the agenda appears to be the small matter of judgement...

*or for those who chose Oxford, very peculiar.

D got in to Oxford!

Track still not updated, so she ran (literally) to school to get her grades, and has just texted to say that she got in.

horsemadmom · 13/08/2020 08:33

Big relief here! She's in.

DadDadDad · 13/08/2020 08:34

Well done, wilma!

Wooooo congrats to everyone's DC! Looking forward to meeting some of them next year! Only sibling's AS results here to worry about, and we seem to have won the lucky dip on that one, thank goodness

KaptainKaveman · 13/08/2020 08:36

Well done all. Grin

DadDadDad · 13/08/2020 08:37

Well done, @horsemadmom , you're not on the list - Oxford or Cambridge?

DD’s best friend’s track finally updated, at 8.34, to show her in clearing. Great system Hmm. DD still can’t get in track.

gizmo · 13/08/2020 08:41

4 x A and an agonising wait for UCAS to find DS is now on his third* Oxford college: St Catz has made him an offer.

Very chirpy here. @RoiseCap, how is your DD doing?

horsemadmom · 13/08/2020 08:41

Oxford. DD got her 3 A*. Can't tell you how relieved we are. She's had a really horrible time the last 6 months- one of those people with chronic illness and no NHS treatment. DD is a superhero for coping.

RoiseCap · 13/08/2020 08:46

UCAS still not loaded! She’s been sat at the laptop crying trying to reload the page for 45 minutes. We’ve got her off and left DD2 on refreshing duty, and she’s now stress eating a huge bar of chocolate.

PantTwizzler · 13/08/2020 08:49

DS got in to Cambridge. What a relief! There has been leaping for joy here. And now a celebratory breakfast.

Congratulations to all who’ve posted — all good news so far I think? And sorry if anyone is disappointed and lurking.

JulesJules · 13/08/2020 08:50

Got onto Track FINALLY. She rang from school, her college emailed her while she was running to school, she got A A A

Had a bit of a weep

FalsePerceptions · 13/08/2020 08:52

No go here and several grades are bizarre.

Seem to be leaving the thread after only 24 hours on it but congratulations to all!

aibutohavethisusername · 13/08/2020 08:54

Well done to all those who have got the grades that they needed. In the end DD got AAA (she was unsuccessful at Oxford after interview) and she got into her firm of UCL to study History.

TerfTerfTerf · 13/08/2020 08:56

Well done everyone!! So happy for you and your DC 🎉

DS is disappointed with A* BB and not into Durham but York have offered a place, which he now thinks he doesn't want!! Bloody glad he didn't get an Oxford offer as he'd have been really really gutted now. Silver linings and all Grin He'll have rethought his whole future by lunchtime and by teatime will be back to the original plan.

Flyonawalk · 13/08/2020 08:58

Ds got into Oxford and grades as hoped. So relieved! Congratulations to all our children. Holding those who are disappointed in my thoughts.

Peaseblossom22 · 13/08/2020 09:01

So sad for all those who haven’t had good news , this really is brutal, as if they haven’t been through enough 🙁

ofteninaspin · 13/08/2020 09:04

Wow - congratulations to everyone so far. That was one sleepless night!!

DS is into Cambridge! No results yet. School is thirty minutes drive away and I am waiting impatiently for DS to call home (DH is driving!).

RoiseCap · 13/08/2020 09:04

Finally got onto track and she’s into Oxford! Getting dressed to head to school now and still jittery as she wants A*AA or higher so she can apply for Durham/St Andrew’s/maybe Oxbridge again next year if needed. Also still traumatised by the 54 minute wait to get into track... and upset for her best friend (in clearing). Her boyfriend has got into Birmingham so he’s happy, but probably gap year-ing.

AChickenCalledDaal · 13/08/2020 09:08

Sorry to hear that FalsePerceptions.

Still waiting here. DD has gone to school and refuses to log in for STEP results until she's got the A level results. I think she will check at school. Probably so her parents can't look over her shoulder ...

Congratulations to all those who have made it over the line!

Flyonawalk · 13/08/2020 09:08

DS grades A* x 4 so not moderated down which was the fear. We also had Track frozen!

Runzilla · 13/08/2020 09:12

He's got his place, after 45 minutes of refreshing the page. Won't know results until he can go to school at 11.30. Can't quite believe it yet. Thinking of all those who have to readjust their plans today.

mimbleandlittlemy · 13/08/2020 09:13

AAA here which means he is in to Birmingham. He now needs to decide if he wants to persuade them to take him this year.

I am actually sobbing with relief.

ofteninaspin · 13/08/2020 09:13

Thoughts also with DC who have not received the news they hoped for this morning Flowers.
