Oxbridge 2020 (thread 10) - the path to the first term (just one slight hurdle to clear first)

For better or worse, there is a bit of a bond of mutual experience between parents whose DC go through the Oxbridge application process. Thank you for your companionship so far - and thank you to others who started the earlier threads in this series.

This thread should take us to the start of the first term (whatever form that takes). All welcome here, but for many of us hopefully this will be the place for practical support as we help prepare these peculiar* young adults to spread their wings.

But the first item on the agenda appears to be the small matter of judgement...

*or for those who chose Oxford, very peculiar.

She got her grades.

DD’s UCAS track not loading!!

For social distancing school have given them all certain times to arrive - 8.00-8.30 is reserved for people who are in clearing/want to call their firm with the aid of the school. Our surname beings with a T so DD is due in near the end - 9.25 is her slot.

DD’s in to Oxford.
Don’t know grades yet.

Many of her friends can’t get UCAS to load yet.

Fingers crossed for everyone else (haven’t refreshed this before writing).

DS is in! He even got one A* so that was a bonus as only worry was that he got his AAA offer.

Impressive, Ironoaks, congratulations to your DS!

DS got exactly the grades I predicted in March: A stars in maths and physics and A in chemistry. Ironically chemistry was his dead cert if he'd taken exams but school has poor track record. So that's the system in action. Who cares, we are all thrilled!

Congrats to all those who've posted good news so far. Why were we worried I wonder? I'm really hoping it's good all round.

That must be so frustrating for you all. DD got hers off her school portal. 2xA* and an A. 3A offer so she is pleased, but perplexed by the A b/c it was in her best subject

DS’s place at Oxford is confirmed! He’s in the shower now getting ready to go to school to get his results and I had a bit of a cry. So proud of him.

Oh the relief!

Dd received a school email but can't load UCAS tracking service..she's got into Cambridge !! - we are all blubbing in the Kaveman household. She received an email from the Cambridge college as well.

She was awarded A /A / A - thankfully the same as her mock results. Many of her school friends have been downgraded though .

DD got in! No idea what her grades are yet but she has a place.

Of course she now wants to write to them and try to defer... Why is nothing straightforward with her?!

DD got in! She’ll pick up results from school in an hour - still don’t know what they are.

DD’s friend from another school got ABD in Biology, French, and Maths (in that order) but has somehow come out with ABB - the A in MATHS. Seems like a lot of surprise results.
