Work experience/internship/anything for Economics and Management?

Hello

DS is interested in studying economics and management at university. He's keen to get some experience to strengthen his application and broaden his knowledge.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to avenues to explore? He's only 16 so has some time to go before applying. He reads pretty widely around the subject.

Thank you.

Most of the big finance companies do insight weeks for 6th formers. DD did Morgan Stanley. DD also did the Eton College summer school which she raved about but I think it's only open to state school pupils. Consultancies e.g. McKinsey or Bain do internships but I think they might be too late for UCAS applications. BrightNetwork are running online management and consultancy internships this year (not sure what they do normally). I think they are massive >8000 participants so really just watching presentations from various companies and a bit of project work on your own. DD still thought interesting.

He’ll struggle for work experience at the moment, so I’d suggest some online MOOCs

Deloittes usually do their Career Shapers for 6th formers in October half term and in the Summer holidays, PwC, BDO, EY etc in Summer. Most of these open in January for summer work experience.

It might be worth looking at Deloittes now for the October sitting but as mentioned above they may be cancelled this year.

Accenture has a Virtual Internship Experience UK 2020 online at the moment which is task oriented rather than seminar oriented. However I think he may need to be 18 but worth a look.

DS shadowed a Director of a Commercial Division of a major bank when he was 16.

Again too late for this year but worth reading up on so you know when it opens is the McKinsey Leadership Academy which from memory opens in February and closes applications in April.

This was the page for the current academic year. Keep looking as I suspect it may update soon.
