Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

Shauna my favourite go to card at the moment simply says "How did you pull that one off. I mean congrats!" I have a stash of them. Some of my friends are personalizing cards via Moonpig though. I'm not confident enough at this stage to do that.

sandybayley · 08/08/2020 18:54

@Hoghgyni - I'm slightly embarrassed to say we (me and DD) have got an oversized Moonpig card. I really wanted to resist but I couldn't. If it has to be destroyed so be it.

Hoghgyni · 08/08/2020 18:57

I am so so so superstitious that I just can't. However there is a bottle of fizz in the fridge in the garage. Shame I have to work on Thursday. I cancelled my day off when Gavin Williamson said results would be released at the end of July &couldn't get it back again.

sandybayley · 08/08/2020 19:33

Well @Hoghgyni every house should always have a bottle of champagne lurking somewhere just in case it is needed...,

Hoghgyni · 08/08/2020 19:41

I think Co-op & M&S have some good deals on locally at the mo. They are flaunting their bottles in front of my nose. It's very hard to resist. Perhaps I should get some orange juice as well to dilute it.

aibutohavethisusername · 08/08/2020 20:10

We’ve booked a meal out for Thursday night come what may. Not got a card as don’t want to tempt fate.

specialted · 08/08/2020 20:21

I've actually not planned anything , which is unlike me. I am presuming ds will be out with his friends either celebrating or commiserating . I've taken the day off work just to be around whatever the outcome, although the unconditional takes the pressure off hugely. Ds is not the type that will want a congrats card if he hasn't done well. I'll rush out and get one if need be. And make a cake.

idsisatwat · 08/08/2020 20:54

Yep, I know what you mean about being too superstitious! As well as DD, my nephew is also waiting for results.
Though I do have a bottle of champagne - will have to make sure it’s chilled

JufusMum · 08/08/2020 20:58

I’ve taken a couple of hours off in the morning so I can be with DD when she gets her results emailed. No real celebration planned as DD works evenings but we are going to Blackpool next Weekend for our one and only holiday this year with DD and her best friend. She is fairly chilled about results. She has an unconditional but she is a bit worried about Philosophy. Small cohort of 5, all predicted A/A*. Last years cohort of 7 were not quite as academic and all got D/E’s. So she’s concerned the ofqual moderating may drag it down.

sandybayley · 08/08/2020 21:23

@Hoghgyni if you can get the Co-op Les Pionniers NV Champagne it is lovely.
It's made by Piper Heidseick. I'm
not on commission of course 😉

ThrawnCow · 08/08/2020 22:40

DS doesn't think he and his friends will be going out on Thursday night. Surely that can't be right? So I've booked a table on Friday night, hoping we'll have something to celebrate. Must get all my info together for Thursday in case we need clearing. Who knows what the heck will happen?

mimbleandlittlemy · 08/08/2020 23:18

We are going out on. Wednesday night to celebrate our last ight of not knowing - and to get Dishy Rishy’s money off. I thought he would want to be with friends on Thursday. Not got a card. I usually have one but somehow, this year....

mimbleandlittlemy · 08/08/2020 23:19

Terrible typing. Sorry.

Twofigures · 09/08/2020 00:25

Isn’t this just such a stressful time for them all?! Does anyone know if the universities make their decisions about the students who met their offer/are close enough to be accepted first or are such a big miss that they’re a definite no? My DS saw that his university applicant portal had a change saved at 11.30 this morning but we don’t know if that’s a good thing or not! 🤞

KingscoteStaff · 09/08/2020 10:33

DS’s latest email from his firm says that ‘final decisions on offers will definitely be made by Wednesday 19th’.

I’m guessing that’s for those who have narrowly missed their offer - or is it (in normal years) to allow for a rapid remark?

If DC waited until the 19th and then got a no, surely they’d have lost their insurance place and any chance of clearing?

Lightuptheroom · 09/08/2020 11:42

That doesn't really make sense about the 19th, as you say they would be missing out on clearing places if they wait that long?

Peaseblossom22 · 09/08/2020 12:13

I know Cambridge and Durham have form for keeping people waiting. In two cases we know if this resulted in people ending up with an unplanned year off .

NotEnoughTime · 09/08/2020 13:08

I have ordered an Afternoon Tea to be delivered on Thursday. If my DS hasn't done as well as he would have liked/hasn't got the grades he needs for his University place then he probably won't want to go out but I would still like to 'mark' the occasion.

MillicentMartha · 09/08/2020 15:12

I’ve booked Pizza Express for my pizza lover. It re-opens in our town on the 13th luckily.

Do you get Tesco tokens MillicentMartha-they are very good value when you 'cash' them in (x3 value I think?) at Pizza Express.

ofteninaspin · 09/08/2020 16:15

A “narrow miss” this year presumably means being ranked at the top of the grade below the one you need. Will schools reveal this information on results day?

Hoghgyni · 09/08/2020 16:41

They can only do so if it doesn't give info about any other child's relative ranking, so I think schools will avoid it like the plague.

Sostenueto · 09/08/2020 16:50

We too have bought an oversized moonpig congrats card because we thought a bit of optimism would be good!

mumsneedwine · 09/08/2020 16:54

They have to let you know the CAG and the ranking now I think - I've stopped reading the appeals things as I was getting too uptight.

MillicentMartha · 09/08/2020 17:14

The CAG, yes, if you put in an SAR, but the ranking only if it doesn’t reveal others’ ranks. Schools may well give out CAGs without requiring the faff of an SAR.
