Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

I think the universities know the night before. So if you log in to UCAS after midnight you will be able to see if you've been accepted by your first choice well before getting your A level results. Well that's how it worked in previous years.

mumsneedwine · 04/08/2020 20:20

Unis will get the results on Friday, along with UCAS. So track will be locked until 13th at 8.30am. When it will very probably crash 🤪

UCAS get the results this Friday. Unis get the results by Sunday. They have a few days to make their decisions which then get loaded on to UCAS. UCAS Track doesn’t update until 8am on 13th (officially, sometimes 25-30 minutes earlier.)

Schools get the results next Wednesday. They aren’t allowed to release them until 8am this year.

In other words, I agree with SeasonFinale! Grin

I'm getting a bit confused and wonder if any of you lovely lot can help.
So, Ds has an unconditional insurance, if for any reason he misses his firm, then his application automatically defaults to his insurance, is that right? So track would show that he's got a place at insurance uni?
But, if this happens he really wants to approach the firm uni to see if they would take him on a different course, can he do this without rejecting his insurance? So effectively applying for a clearing place but knowing that he still has the insurance place if the firm uni don't have anything else available?
Or in this scenario would be have to reject the unconditional place and risk the firm uni not taking him in clearing and risk not having any back up plan?

MillicentMartha · 04/08/2020 21:27

@Lightuptheroom, I think so. If he can get a place at his original firm uni, he might need to ask to be released from his insurance and go through clearing, though, once he has an offer. Hopefully someone who knows may be able to clarify, otherwise get him to contact UCAS to ask.

LIZS · 04/08/2020 22:10

@Lightuptheroom if there are places on the alternative courses at firm in Clearing he can call with his results and ask. If they agree he can release the insurance place and confirm the new one at firm.

Lightuptheroom · 04/08/2020 22:21

Thanks both, he's my only and I last did application when it was the old system, didn't want him clicking on anything!

MillicentMartha · 04/08/2020 22:33

@Lightuptheroom, it’s also possible that his firm might offer him an alternative course via track on results day.

@Alittlewornout - glad to hear your news, although they say that the first year at St A is the most fun, least pressure, so she is missing out on the easy year. Wink

Although it looks like there may have been some very unfair results, on the whole, the results for Advanced Higher are well up this year - 38.4% A this year compared to 31.8% last year. That is a relative increase of 21% in the top grade. I don't think OFQUAL will allow England an increase as big as that, but it would be nice!

Many thanks for the info gang so helpful x

Divoc2020 · 05/08/2020 10:43

@Lightuptheroom - I'd say make sure he gets something confirmed in 'writing' (by email, or via UCAS etc) before he releases his insurance offer. Check all the details are correct (Course title, start date, location (if the uni has different campuses etc).
It's a busy morning during Clearing and mistakes can be made, or details missed.

I know someone who agreed to an alternative course in order to get to her chosen university, only to discover later it was on a more remote satellite campus a 40 min bus ride away! (She still went and managed to transfer to the main campus in her 2nd year, and had a great time).

SeasonFinale · 05/08/2020 11:27

Divoc - I don't think it can be by UCAS as you suggest above. They won't be able to update until the release has been given.

Divoc2020 · 05/08/2020 13:55

Ah, OK, good point. My memory is a bit hazy about the process, but I know that DS's clearing uni sent him confirmation of the details of their offer prior to him accepting.
HesMyLobster · 06/08/2020 07:40

This time next week . . What will we all be doing?!

2 years ago DD1's track updated at exactly 7:30am. I wonder if it will be the same this year?

SeasonFinale · 06/08/2020 08:41

Quite possibly

BalloonSlayer · 06/08/2020 08:56

Can I join?

I am so worried my DD won't get what she deserves. She has always worked so hard and although she had good predicted grades I think she knew she could do even better and was planning to knock it out of the park.

The course she wants - the ONLY course she wants - has asked for grades easily achievable for her. So I am worried the school might have ranked her lower than other people because they think she doesn't "need" the higher grades. And what if they downgrade her and she doesn't even get awarded those????

DD doesn't have a lot of confidence but the one area she does have confidence is on her academic ability. I have the feeling this may get destroyed next week.

Sorry for the ranting on . . . and please don't feel the need to respond, I just wanted to get my worries out.

I looked at Scotsnet last night hoping for reassurance and now I feel even worse.

Hope your DCs all get what they need and, more importantly, deserve. Flowers

Newgirls · 06/08/2020 08:58

Balloon we hear you 👍 it all seems so out of their (and our) hands doesn’t it

MarchingFrogs · 06/08/2020 09:01

The JCQ embargo period normally ends at 6am, though, so UCAS was free to update Track at any time after that - this year it's extended to 8am.

choirmumoftwo · 06/08/2020 09:03

I'm with you Balloonslayer. My DD has an unconditional offer and I vacillate between thinking her results don't matter in that context, and how unfair it would be if her results don't reflect her work to date and her potential. It's an absolute mess and so random.
She says she doesn't care anymore but I know she does and she's worried for her friends.

suze28 · 06/08/2020 09:48

We talked about results last night and whether they'll be a fair/true reflection of ability or potential. DD is on an unconditional at her first choice prior to applying so she's in a highly favourable position but she still needs to do well for her.
She admitted last night that she probably won't sleep the night before results.

Bouledeneige · 06/08/2020 10:01

Thanks for the info folks. In previous years you could see if you'd got into your uni at midnight - before you got your grades.

I'm sure i wont sleep the night before. DS was getting consistently better grades after his predictions so I'm not sure what the school will have submitted and whether or not he will have been marked down - as a considerable number of scottish students didn't get their predictions.

BalloonSlayer · 06/08/2020 10:33

Thank you for all the nice replies. Smile

The post back there about SARs is helpful as well, it's good to know one can find out what grades were put forward by the school. I think I was catastrophising . . . DD had a report after mocks with target, mock and current grades and I was imagining the school somehow submitting lower grades than those for her. But why would they? When they know we could find that out and kick up a stink? Plus of course they want the best for everyone.

MillicentMartha · 06/08/2020 12:34

It’s getting to us all, BalloonSlayer. I dreamt last night that DS’s firm choice uni had put a (colour coded) list out in result order of all their firm and insurance applicants (with photos) and I was desperately scanning for a photo of DS. And there he was! Colour coded green! I was so happy before I woke up. Blush
