Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

@MillicentMartha this is Oxford, don't know how it varies between colleges, but D1's doesn't offer all meals at the weekends. Better send her with plenty of flapjack Grin (touching wood etc for results of course)

MillicentMartha · 02/08/2020 17:35

Manchester aren’t even doing subject bubbles, JulesJules!

Dies anyone know about applying for accommodation at Bath if it's the insurance choice? DS says he's had no information from them about it.

Badgerstmary · 02/08/2020 17:46

Hi, my dd also has Exeter as 1st choice & won’t consider buying anything until the 13th. Like lots of you & your dc we are so ready for results day! Just hoping she receives what she needs.

MillicentMartha · 02/08/2020 17:52

@ThrawnCow
www.bath.ac.uk/guides/applying-for-student-accommodation/#check-you-are-eligible-to-apply-for-student-accommodation

‘If you hold an insurance offer or apply through Clearing, you will be able to apply for accommodation from 19 August. You will then be added to a non-guaranteed waiting list.‘

Thanks Millicent.

DD is taking her driving test for the fourth time on Friday. She is desperate to get her license before uni and I feel sick. If she doesn’t pass this time I already know she will be unbearable!

JulesJules · 03/08/2020 12:22

Best of luck to her, @Jufusmum this was on D1's list of things to do this summer, but her instructor hasn't started lessons again yet, so she might have to leave it till next summer.

KingscoteStaff · 03/08/2020 14:23

Yes, good luck @JufusMum - tell her that my DS still hasn’t progressed from clutch control in the rugby club car park!

MillicentMartha · 03/08/2020 15:05

Same here, JulesJules. DS had around 7 lessons to go and had booked his test for 19th April. His instructor has taken another job, so we’re postponing it until next summer now.

Good luck Jufus!

Thanks all.
It will be doable, but very inconvenient if DD doesn’t have a car at uni as she has to join the Specials, so could be late shifts in other towns. Not the best idea on public transport and uni is in a very small town with less the perfect transport links. I’m just crossing everything. Instructor says she is more than ready but last three tests she made silly mistakes. Now she’s really putting pressure on herself.

YouthClub · 03/08/2020 17:59

My son has applied to Winchester Uni and had an offer which he’s accepted. He has been basing his place on 120 UCAS points and his predicted grades would achieve this. However, when I looked on the Uni website today it states 104-120 UCAS points. Obviously his results are out of his hands so does anyone know if he were to achieve 104 points would he be accepted onto the course?

MillicentMartha · 03/08/2020 18:28

I’d hope so, YouthClub. You’d think they’d rather have someone who really wants to go there and firmed it who then gets 104 points than someone from Clearing with 104 points. I’m trying not to second guess too much, though!

Yes, we just want it to be over now. She will doubtless have a shopping list a mile long once she's got the results! And I need to get Exeter DDs box of uni stuff out of the shed so she can go through it and see if there was anything she took last time that she really didn't need. Incidentally anyone going to Exeter would do well to get in with DD. When she's stressed she bakes cakes. Her college friends used to look forward to exam days because she'd turn up with cake each time!

YouthClub · 03/08/2020 19:06

That’s my thoughts as well and I hope that there will be a little bit of wriggle room as otherwise lots of courses are are going to be half full.
It’s so difficult not to speculate but I just want to know! 🤦🏼‍♀️

DuckyMcDuck · 03/08/2020 19:25

Further upthread re shopping lists, someone recommended collapsible boxes (sorry, hard to scroll back on my phone); just to let you know, Lidl have them this week at £5 for 2.

Lightuptheroom · 03/08/2020 20:45

@YouthClub , I know Winchester well and they historically take a lot of students in clearing so as has been said up thread I would imagine they would rather take someone they have had a full application from than a clearing one

YouthClub · 03/08/2020 22:06

Thank you, that’s really good to know! 🙂

ThingDoer · 04/08/2020 09:39

Any Scottish result-receivers yet? How did it go for you?

Alittlewornout · 04/08/2020 11:06

Yep Dd got 3 As at advanced highers ( schools will give bands later but pretty meaningless) some really mixed results for some. Pop over to scotsnet for a wee look. For dd means she can go into second year for maths.

Bouledeneige · 04/08/2020 11:23

Hey folks. I'm starting to get edgy about results day next week. My DS was not one of those all A* students so I'm not confident he will get his place at Sussex so may need to use clearing. I think it could be a busy day. So consequently I have no plans to go shopping for uni supplies yet.

Can I just check have people heard from their first choice accommodation? My DS applied months ago but no word. I can't remember how it works as my daughter had a firm offer for Art school so didn't need to wait for results.

Lightuptheroom · 04/08/2020 11:38

Hi @Bouledeneige, it depends on the university, but most only confirm the accomodation after they have had their place confirmed on results day, it's worth checking out the accomodation pages on his university website as some will let them apply before results and state preference which is then confirmed later, others don't open the application process until later

MillicentMartha · 04/08/2020 11:42

Brilliant news @Alittlewornout! There’s no A* for advanced highers, is there? That’s a fabulous result.

DS won’t hear about accommodation until some time after results day. He applied back in March but his firm choice uni don’t allocate until then.

Bouledeneige · 04/08/2020 11:43

Thanks Lightuptheroom I did go and check after posting and it said they don't confirm accommodation till August. so i'm guessing it will be after results.

In case other parents are thinking about clearing I check the UCAS site the other evening and there are still a lot of places left for Mathematics which my DS wants to study so that made me feel a bit better.

My son is hoping to go to Exeter - he loves cakes (eating rather than baking)!
