Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

So it's not just dd's college that are late letting them know about results.

Like Millicent Martha said it's not like they've not been expecting this!

MillicentMartha · 31/07/2020 21:47

@Snozzlemaid, I suggest she emails them rather than phones, and tries both admin and a named person, less likely to get overlooked.

I can't understand why they need to go out in batches @Cafeconleche Confused

Surely they can set it up so they all go out at 8 am ?

ShalomJackie · 31/07/2020 22:18

Yes schools get them the day before and the emails will be prepared and preprogramned for an 8am send.

Perhaps they are covering themselves in the event of a hardware breakdown!

MillicentMartha · 31/07/2020 23:30

Or they’re still in the 20th century and are sending them manually.

Maybe they are trying stagger the responses/pleas for help.

KingscoteStaff · 01/08/2020 08:55

Have I got enough time to deed poll DS’s name to A. A. Aardvark and shorten the agony?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 01/08/2020 09:28

Is anyone doing anything for accommodation in your Childs insurance choice? My daughter has Durham as her firm, but obviously like other people we are concerned that she may not get the grades to get in. Leeds is her insurance, but you are not able to even apply for university accommodation until after the results come out unless it is your firm. I imagine that by then all the places will have gone and it will be a mad scramble to find somewhere. My friends son was in the same situation and ended up in some awful substandard accommodation miles away from the University. I'm wondering if there is something proactive we can do to avoid this happening? Presumably this is the same at all universities?

SeasonFinale · 01/08/2020 09:47

No actually it is not the same everywhere. Some you still apply after results day and then the allocations for all students are done at the same time.

AChickenCalledDaal · 01/08/2020 10:26

DD has an application in for accommodation at her insurance offer, but they won't process it unless/until she firmly across her offer. So she almost certainly won't get her first preference but they do guarantee to allocate university accommodation. That is by no means the case everywhere and was a factor in her choosing this university as insurance.

At this stage, I guess all you can do is make sure he knows the system and is ready to spring into action as soon as it becomes necessary (if it does). And potentially research private accommodation options in Leeds now so that you know what the fall back is as can act on it if necessary.

Ironoaks · 01/08/2020 10:42

DS has Warwick as his insurance choice. Anyone who has it as firm or insurance choice can submit their preferences for accommodation. They don't start allocating accommodation for anyone until after the A-level results are out and the places are confirmed. The wellbeing services team are supporting his request for specific accommodation due to disability, so hopefully he would get something suitable for his needs.

ofteninaspin · 01/08/2020 10:55

That seems like a very fair process at Warwick @Ironoaks. DS has Durham as his insurance choice so accommodation is guaranteed albeit with a very small chance of college reallocation.

MillicentMartha · 01/08/2020 12:03

It does vary from uni to uni. I don’t know what to suggest about Leeds, except investigate the accommodation on their website now so you have a chance to apply as quickly as possible. DS was able to apply for accommodation at his insurance, but he doesn’t have a guarantee. It doesn’t get allocated until after results day, but ‘firm’ candidates will be allocated first.

DS has Manchester as insurance - you can apply for accomm, but it doesn’t get processed until/unless you firm.

DuckyMcDuck · 01/08/2020 19:27

DS assured me that he couldn't apply for accommodation at his insurance, Exeter. Anyone know if he was right please?

MillicentMartha · 01/08/2020 19:48

That’s true, Ducky, or it was 4 years ago when it was DS1’s insurance. He wasn’t able to apply until after results day. Luckily he didn’t need to.

@DuckyMcDuck

Dd has told me the same for her insurance, Reading.
DuckyMcDuck · 02/08/2020 07:53

Thank you, as the 13th gets closer, he is getting more jumpy regarding anything Uni related (and he's not the only one Grin )

Lightuptheroom · 02/08/2020 09:01

My ds has all but convinced himself that he won't get his firm, keep trying to keep his spirits up but kind of wish they had bought the results day forward a bit

Hoghgyni · 02/08/2020 15:36

This final wait is dragging. I asked DD how she was coping with the wait. She says some days are better than others, but won't even consider buying as much as a Sistema noodle bowl until after 13th.

JulesJules · 02/08/2020 15:54

Sistema noodle bowl is also on my list! According to D1's offer holders group chat though, the self catering kitchens will be closed. This is going to make food really expensive. I'm wondering if they will be allowed mini fridges in their rooms, or even a microwave.

Ironoaks · 02/08/2020 16:11

If they can't make any meals at all for themselves then it will be very expensive. Also tricky if they miss the college mealtime due to another commitment.

Hoghgyni · 02/08/2020 16:28

We were wondering if catered halls across the country will have bubble slots for mealtimes.

MillicentMartha · 02/08/2020 16:29

Where’s that JulesJules? Would be tricky to do that in places like Warwick where there are no catered halls at all!

OP posts:
JulesJules · 02/08/2020 16:56

Seems a bit illogical when they'll be sharing bathrooms. They'll be in subject bubbles in accommodation so I assume there will be staggered mealtimes. I'm hoping it's just a rumour.
