Hopefully as the title suggests we will actually get up to results on this thread! Only 5 weeks to go.

@ShalomJackie the 33% was Chinese whispers. The FFT report led to a report that 33% of grades would change which led to a report that grades would change BY 33%!

As the FFT report said that teacher proposed GCSE grades were on average half a grade higher than last year, the 9% looks surprising high - might mean that schools not using FFT were more optimistic in predictions than those which did. For GCSEs OFQUAL had said from the start that there would be more passing and more top grades, so that bit is not really news. (see

12% is the first number I have seen about accuracy of A level predictions.

Railingsohno · 21/07/2020 20:43

Oh God! This is torture! Confused I may have to stop looking at this thread!

MillicentMartha · 21/07/2020 20:49

@Railingsohno, maybe take a break from it, if it’s too much? But please come back on results day. I’m invested in all our DC now! Smile

@MillicentMartha I’ll feel better once I’ve done my flowchart Grin

ShalomJackie · 21/07/2020 21:10

Yes I realise that the 33% was misrepresented as grades going down by a third rather than a third of grades going down. I agree those that had used or seen the FFT reports may have put in more realistic grades and those that hadn't didn't.

I am sure it will all come out in the wash!

ParisCactus · 21/07/2020 22:54

Our school is "in person" results only, to be picked up in a socially distanced manner within a prearranged ten-minute timeslot. Small 6th form so they should get through them all by 9am. No parents allowed in school.
None will be emailed or released by phone which seems crazy to me as not everyone is able to get there without long journeys on public transport.
What have other schools arranged?

RedStreetMonument · 21/07/2020 22:58

Ours is a choice - either an e-mail or a time slot. Choices were made last week and confirmed today. Teachers available on the phone for help with clearing.

suze28 · 21/07/2020 23:10

Available from 8am on the MCAS app for DD1. She's going to Uni of Gloucestershire at the Cheltenham campus so we spent the day in Cheltenham today walking around the town. We started near to the campus, walked to her halls (used the loos in the SU building!) and then walked to the town centre. It's a lovely place and she feels like she has her bearings there now.

Snozzlemaid · 21/07/2020 23:18

Dd has had no info from her college about results day. Last she heard was from her tutor weeks ago saying they won't be going in to collect their results.
So I guess we'll just be checking on UCAS online.

MillicentMartha · 22/07/2020 01:14

@Snozzlemaid, track won’t show your results, though, just your uni placement. Hopefully that’ll be all you need on the 13th. I’m sure the college will sort out something. Is it the really big one mid county?

DS will get results online on edulink at 8am and can go in person to school but in slots by alphabetical order of surname, so not until 10.30am for him. He can also book a meeting with sixth form staff if necessary for help and advice.

@suze28, Park, Hardwick or Francis Close? Wink

suze28 · 22/07/2020 06:34

@MillicentMartha She's at FCH so we parked at Hardwick for £2.50 for the day. Bargain!

JufusMum · 22/07/2020 06:36

DD has been told none of them can go into school to collect their results, it’s email only. Yet another anti climax for them.

@MillicentMartha No it’s the new one in the north if the county. I’m hoping we will hear something soon from them about how dd will get her actual grades.

specialted · 22/07/2020 07:19

I think ds can go in for grades as usual but not heard anything for a few weeks since some vague email from the school that it would be the usual process. Typically ds hasn't even thought about when results day is. Probably the best way tbh!

DuckyMcDuck · 22/07/2020 08:19

DS's school have emailed saying they should come in, in time slots by Form groups, no parents allowed on site!

DS's slot is 9am although they've been told to check UCAS at 8am and come in straight away if they haven't got the offers they wanted.

Oratory1 · 22/07/2020 08:23

DS has been told results will be available in school and on school portal from 9am but to be confirmed nearer the time. I hope he gets to go in. He's determined not to look at track before hand so I'm going to have to be strong not to take a peek!!

Oratory1 · 22/07/2020 08:26

That's good Ducky to get the ones with issues straight in. Bit of an issue for DS if no parents on site as the school is literally in the middle of nowhere! But I imagine it will be parents wait in the car as it was on pick up day when the school closed, and also what I chose to do for GCSE's.

MillicentMartha · 22/07/2020 09:56

I was relegated to hanging around with other parents at the school gates for GCSEs but DS1 let me go in with him for A levels. He’d grown up a bit and was no longer ‘embarrassed’ by my presence. I don’t think DS3 has got to that stage yet, though! No parents allowed in to his school either this time around.

suze28, I drive past FCH on my way to work every day. Really pretty campus. Tons of students live in St Paul’s.

snozzlemaid cross fingers they make some plans soon.

Ducky’s school seems to have the right idea. DS has to book a slot to see staff at his school if he needs to. We’ve been given 3 school mobile numbers to call if necessary.

Oratory that sounds like torture! I would prefer to know what we might need to do before going to get results. I think it’ll be a sleepless night here.

I wonder if Track really will open at 8? I know there’s a moratorium until 8am this year for schools giving out results but Track isn’t actually results? And it’s always said 8am and has always opened a bit earlier!

seedybird · 22/07/2020 10:48

DD's school has told them that they can collect results from 08:00 through to 09:30 and one adult can accompany them for support.
Nail-biting times ahead...

seedybird · 22/07/2020 10:51

...at least this is the last of GSCE's and A Levels for me, until my GS takes his in 2035 Wink

thesunwillout · 22/07/2020 10:54

No news from dd's college yet about getting results.
I'm kind of hoping it's emails only as it's bloody miles away by car.

Heathersnotsosmall · 22/07/2020 16:34

Have been catching upon this thread, having tried to avoid it since lockdown! 3 weeks tomorrow...best of luck to our students...and us!

ShaunaTheSheep · 22/07/2020 18:05

DS has an alphabetical time slot, so he'll be one of the earliest ones to get results. Although tbh I'm not anticipating anything other than confirmation of his firm in Track. His course is already showing in clearing, albeit at the standard offer. I suspect that may be due to the Overseas student situation, as it certainly wasn't last year.

I will also be searching clearing for the courses DS2 is applying to for 2021/22 start.

MillicentMartha · 22/07/2020 18:26

Good idea, Shauna, although this year’s clearing might not be that good a predictor for next. I checked all likely universities for maths courses last year which helped DS in ranking his firm and insurance. DS’s firm and insurance are in clearing so far, at their standard offer, but last year his insurance had dropped one grade on results day. Remember to check again on results day for your DS2’s courses.

Wow this is a landmark day - I've just received the very last parent bulletin from DD's school. Where did those 7 years go? I suddenly feel a bit weepy Sad
