Is anyone’s DC doing their year abroad in September?

DD1 is waiting to see if it goes ahead. She is very stressed about it - if she has to do her third year here she will struggle to find somewhere to live, and the Department will have twice the number of students. There doesn’t seem to be any contingency planning in place.

Ds headed to France tomorrow & i've just had a thought - does he need to change his phone contract? With Vodafone & at the moment France included in free roaming but is that ok and is it likely to change with Brexit? Just want to avoid massive unexpected costs!! Anyone else in this position please? Thanks x

So my DD had an issue with her phone which my DH sorted with providers once she was there. Talk to providers.

How are your DC doing. My Dd has had a good first week . Mtg up with other students working there- friends of friends etc.

Thank you - had a chat with Vodafone & they assure me no extra charges (I've logged call just in case)! Well, he's there! Flat provided by the school very bare but has the basics & he's going shopping today for 'homely' things! He has 2 weeks before starting work so hoping to explore a bit & meet people - in a small town so isolation was the thing he's most worried about but I'm sure he'll be fine

Sounds good. There is often an erasmus group Facebook for his country. May be people in nearby towns at least. Join a class. Travel to see country and friends dotted around. Hopefully they'll all have a great time. Xx.

Does anyone else have offspring in ERASMUS or placement in Madrid? I'd appreciate some discussion about the current level of cases there. Thanks

Sunndowne · 30/09/2020 21:16

Not Madrid. Is it worse than places in England?

How's everyone's DC getting on? Anyone else in France? My DS has just heard of upcoming changes in the senior schools- pupils moving to 50% attendance & rest on line but hasn't actually been told how that may impact him yet! Apparently some teachers have been striking over it but I can't find anything about it online??

I intermittently follow The Local for Germany, as a couple of friends live there.

I’ve never come across this website but looks very useful, thanks for the tip Marchingfrog Smile

My DD doing well. Trying to get everything in place Brexit wise so she can come home for Christmas and return in January

wannabebetter · 16/11/2020 13:03

Thanks Marching - that's a really useful site! @sunndowne, that's a good point - although my DS has an Irish passport so hopefully won't have any issue (although we are in NI so who knows!)
