University applications

Hello! I have a DS in Y13 and he is predicted B,B,B with Biology, Psychology and PE.

His plan was to get onto Physiotherapy - but he's been rejected from two universities. He had a third option of cardiac physiology which he's been accepted for.

I'm just wondering a) if there are other courses anyone could suggest as he really isn't sure! b) would he need to apply through clearing for a completely different course?

Thanks!

Does he have any relevant work experience? Maybe courses like Sports Physio would accept lower grades. There is ucas extra normally but think he would need to decline the offer to start again or try clearing.

Thank you @LIZS - I wasn't aware of the UCAS extra so that might help!

No he hasn't any relevant experience, he currently works at the local fish and chip shop!

He did apply for a voluntary role at the hospital but with the current climate it's obviously all on hold.

Options:
He could take a year out.
Reject cardiac physiology and try and apply for more physio courses.
Wait for clearing.
Take cardiac physio and embrace it.
Take cardiac phys and see if it would be possible to transfer after the first year.

Personally cardiac physio sounds far more interesting as a career than physiotherapy - but that's me and he needs to really research to decide the reality of both and what interests him about both roles.

Thank you @titchy. We did discuss the gap year and gaining more experience but he is keen to continue studying still.

The cardiac open day was brilliant, and he thoroughly enjoyed the interview day too. I just don't want him to take it without considering all options/possible courses! Obviously it's his decision 😀

I think we are going to have another look at courses tomorrow!

@wineandsunshine, did your DS only apply for the three courses you mentioned? If so, as long as the individual courses are still accepting applications, he can just add two more to his UCAS 'form' without rejecting his current offer and using Extra pr eating for Clearing.

Yes he only chose three! Will be looking once he's out of bed 🤣
