Oxbridge 2020 (thread number 9)

What a year! Just as we've all become experts (at least in our own minds Smile ) about how to write Personal Statements, Oxford admission tests and Cambridge STEP, the complicated dance of the interview process, and how to simultaneously boost our DSs' and DDs' confidence while preparing them for the possibility of disappointment, we have a new topic to learn: statistical modelling of expected grades.

Of course, like all those previous topics, we're not in control of teacher projection and OfQual rejection, but we have this thread to support each other through the coming months.

All welcome. For the record, I have a DS with an Oxford offer for a humanities subject.

How lovely to hear a successful result! Congratulations to justaweebit jr.

justaweebit · 04/08/2020 08:59

Thank you all....she's delighted. She's been blocking it out, to be honest, so I'm looking forward to finally being able to relax a bit and enjoy the next couple of months. Other DCs back to school next week, which can't come soon enough now!

sandybayley · 04/08/2020 09:07

goodbyestranger · 04/08/2020 09:48

Well done to your DD justaweebit! Hope today's torrential rain does nothing to dampen the young ones' spirits!

justaweebit · 04/08/2020 09:55

We're on holiday in the north of Scotland.....can hardly get out the door for the wind/rain! The algorithm seems to have given some questionable results but just getting a sense of that now......hmmm

Ironoaks · 04/08/2020 10:27

Congratulations to your DD @justaweebit

V happy for you and DD justaweebit. What a relief that must be!

SnapSnapDragon · 04/08/2020 12:16

If I were you (and I hope I am next week) I'd go out and buy some champagne and drink it in the wind and rain. Wonderful

sandybayley · 04/08/2020 12:50

Now I really am feeling impatient. 9 days to go.

Thank you everyone....it's very kjnd of you and yes, relief is the main emotion. Although Track still hasn't updated! I know it is ok but still wish it would.....had a bit of a celebration this afternoon and it makes you realise that it has been 'in the background' for SO long now.....

aibutohavethisusername · 04/08/2020 17:05

justaweebit Congratulations to your DD.

Hoghgyni · 04/08/2020 18:46

What is she going to be studying Justaweebit? (It's good to type IS rather than MIGHT).

Unescorted · 04/08/2020 20:39

Congratulations justaweebitJr. Fingers crossed for everyone else next week.

justaweebit · 04/08/2020 22:45

She is going to study CAAH....one of the smaller courses, I think, and is her absolute passion. Very glad (for the first time) not to add "if she gets the grades"!

DadDadDad · 04/08/2020 23:35

CAAH = classical archaeology and ancient history, for those who like me needed to look that up.

Gosh! 20 admitted per year. That's even more niche than my DS's course (35-ish per year) if he gets the grades.
