Just in case anyone is interest, Child of our Time is back on BBC 2 at 9pm on Wednesday (2 episodes). The 'children' are now 20.

Sadly, Parys passed away last year.

Red, I agree that there was that tension between Rhiannons' parents earlier. I wonder if this was the mother's last chance to have a child (she was slightly older than usual to have a child I think) so she put up with him but I am just guessing. I also felt as someone who worked full time with babies from 1984 that is was a bit unfair of the higher earner mother suddenly totally to change her mind and stay home and seek to live of low earner husband - that was not the basis on which that family was built originally and meant she was actively choosing poverty for her daughter in a sense although that point was not made and may be the daughter will feel having both parents around a lot was worth it.

Xenia yes i know what you mean. Obviously we don't know the full story but it did seem strange to go from full time high earmer to complete stay at home mum. But then they were rather rural so i guess limited options to wfh or pt work. her job was probably all or nothing. it was the seething resentment towards the husband, he must have had some kind of mild depression i think. not blaming anyone at all i just feel so sad at those wasted years and the impact on that lovely kid.
but we all have our stories and that is hers. and no great art was ever produced from normal!!

Caught up with C4's Born to be Different. That programme was much more up lifting. 3 of the children with disabilities have gone on to university and living independent lives. Life has not been so good for 2 of the children with the severest disabilities and medical complications. Yet all the parents are so positive and united.

Worth a watch.
