Bristol or York for Politics & International Relations?

Bristol or York for Politics & International Relations?

London state school DN cannot make up her mind. Bristol (the city) would be the easier choice as it’s just London-lite, her words, not mine.
But she doesn’t want to make an important decision on the basis of just
lifestyle, at the same time she knows next to nothing about York, or how competitive the course is in Uni of York.

Not visited York.

She is very independent. Has quite an impressive CV already, for a 17 year old student.

She is desperate for an offer from LSE but that’s their most competitive course so she is trying to psych herself up to leave London.

I am not at a loss to understand what caused the thread to veer off course, it started with Hugo and somebody else attacking me for an honest mistake I made when I said I knew a girl who was rejected at Bristol. I was mortified and apologised profusely for my error only to be called a troll by Hugo. Charming.

And I did learn something real wrt Joseph Rowntree.

All very easily found with some research.....

MarchingFrogs · 23/02/2020 19:55

Hes West is said to be central so she is planning to have a tour (no idea this is allowed).

The university campus is on a public bus route - anyone who fancies can get off and have nose around. Certainly when I was last there (five years ago for a sciences applicant day with DS1), we were encouraged to go and have wander, once the organised talks / lectures / brief tour of the relevant faculty had finished.

thesandwich · 23/02/2020 19:55

Oops it’s moving fast- I mean details of Bristol’s well established programmes.....

MilouSnowy · 23/02/2020 19:55

Ahh, right on cue, Sost turns up. What a surprise, you were the other person gleefully attacking me for my error about the rejected girl. I apologised but turns out niceties are wasted on some people.

Been through thread and can't find hugo doing that, to be fair.

ArriettyJones · 23/02/2020 19:58

No Milou. It was rather more than that and started earlier with some of the strange thoughts, ambitions, prejudices and intentions that you were (rather improbably) attributing to your niece. All of which kept escalating.

People were polite and tactful and addressed your questions, but your posts kept getting stranger.

If any of that is true and accurate (DN’s thoughts and intentions), I suggest you address her perception of undergraduate life as your first priority.

BTW, I cannot see anyone calling you a troll.

ArriettyJones · 23/02/2020 19:59

Now I think of it, you’ve posted before about your DN under other usernames, I think?

HuaShan · 23/02/2020 20:00

Arietty Jones has summed up what it is that people are finding difficult Milou

MilouSnowy · 23/02/2020 20:11

Thanks MarchingFrogs that's certainly helpful to know.

OP posts:
MilouSnowy · 23/02/2020 20:12

Well these ad hominem insults are entertaining.

MilouSnowy · 23/02/2020 20:14

Now I think of it, you’ve posted before about your DN under other usernames, I think?

Really? Enlighten me.

Actually don't, I am going out now. I will hide this thread now.

MilouSnowy · 23/02/2020 20:15

Last post.

I apologised and said I was mortified and felt like a troll.

Hugo posted back saying "that's because you are."

Sostenueto · 23/02/2020 20:18

I see you are blaming me milou I have broad shoulders and as Arietty Jones said the problem was summed up very well.
I know who you are now because you are not as clever as you think. But don't worry I won't 'out' you as you are perfectly capable of doing that yourself. And finally we are adults on here and we are not still in the school playground.

Piggywaspushed · 23/02/2020 20:18

Ah, I see. Thank you for clarifying. I can see that was deleted so am not sure why you would draw it back to our attention. Hey ho.

MilouSnowy · 23/02/2020 20:23

I know who you are now because you are not as clever as you think

Well that sound ominous. And now I really must go.

Got to love the HE board 🙄

Sostenueto · 23/02/2020 20:35

Toodle off and go play some chess Milou👋

sandybayley · 23/02/2020 20:46

I have to say that I live the fact that the OP thinks Didsbury = Manchester. That made me laugh a lot.

777mumsie · 23/02/2020 20:55

Can someone kinda enlighten me with what's gone up on this thread.. things have gone belly up at a short space of time, post have been deleted. l now feel as though I've wasted my time and energy posting earlier. Is the OP not really wanting advice and help but is on some other agenda I dont know about by the sounds of things.. I'm all confused.

HuaShan · 23/02/2020 20:57

Milou has your DN had a gap year? I see back in 2015 she was in Y11 and you were worried about Further Maths......

bpisok · 23/02/2020 21:18

Very interesting read (just caught up).

What @MilouSnowy seems to miss is that if the Inde kids from London genuinely are such a cut above and are worthy of befriending then they probably wouldn't want to befriend someone who doesn't meet their exactingly requirements.,,,,,

Pretty sure that my 'posh' London Inde ,Cambridge offer holder girl (obv Durham as a worst case insurance 🤣🤣🤣) would destroy someone who who saw her 'friends' as a social experiment. She has friends across the spectrum (North, South, rich, poor, UK, international, black, white, gay straight) and would think that a need to observe 'behaviours' would simply indicate a lack of knowledge of the world.

Only a 'certain sort' would think that was OK. ...,thankfully not my DDs 'sort'.

Are you sure you are from London ????
Your views seem to be rather 'small town'.

Piggywaspushed · 23/02/2020 21:18

Assume that's different DN??

Oratory1 · 23/02/2020 21:32

along with the outrageous sweeping generalizations about the nature of 'state' and 'private' school students and of the type of students that attend 'northern' Universities

HuaShan · 23/02/2020 21:33

Yes quite possibly a different DN. Have just 're read the 2015 thread and it seems this DN wanted Maths/Economics/Engineering. They also had a mentor from LSE though Confused
